Job summary

Stafford County Public Schools is seeking a Daily Building Substitute to support classroom teachers by implementing instructional activities and maintaining classroom routines.

Under supervision, you will adapt lesson plans, manage behavior, and help create a safe, engaging learning environment while remaining flexible to the school’s daily schedule. The position is a 10-month, 185-day schedule and non-exempt.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Valid teaching license preferred.
• Substitutes must be at least 19 years of age; or in their second year of college. All high school substitutes must be at least 21 years old or in their senior year of college.

Responsibilities

• Perform all duties of the regular teacher staff unless released, providing a summary of the day’s activities.
• Maintain an organized program based on the teacher’s lesson plans and communicate objectives to students.
• Use varied teaching techniques and resources to adapt content to students’ needs and interests.
• Develop a resource of materials to augment lesson plans as necessary.
• Ensure a neat, safe environment when the teacher is absent; leave the room in order and ready for use.
• Promote positive interactions and enthusiasm for learning among students.
• Encourage self-direction and motivation in students.
• Engage in ongoing professional development and respond to information requests.
