Job summary

Chess Wizards, Inc. in Howell, MI, seeks enthusiastic instructors to lead after-school chess classes for elementary students using a structured curriculum.

The role involves creating a fun, safe learning environment, guiding activities, and encouraging problem-solving and sportsmanship. You’ll teach 1–5 classes per week in local schools, earn $50–$65 per class, and receive mileage reimbursement for travel beyond 15 miles one way.

Qualifications

• Experience working with groups of children (teaching, tutoring, coaching, camp counseling, or similar).
• Comfort leading a class independently and creating interactive, friendly, and fun sessions.
• Professional, positive, and kid-friendly demeanor.
• Genuine desire to be a positive role model and promote good sportsmanship.
• Strong grasp of chess fundamentals and ability to explain moves, strategy, and basic tactics to kids.

Responsibilities

• Lead fun, interactive chess classes for 10–15 elementary students.
• Teach chess fundamentals using our structured curriculum.
• Manage a lively classroom with confidence and positivity.
• Encourage problem-solving, creativity, and critical thinking.
• Follow school safety protocols and supervise during arrival, dismissal, and in-class activities.
