Job summary

The Archdiocese of St. Louis Catholic Education and Formation seeks a temporary, long-term substitute teacher to cover a maternity leave for a full-time position.

The assignment is expected to begin in late September or early October and run for about 6–8 weeks depending on the leave schedule. Substitutes will maintain the educational experience and classroom environment in the absence of the regular teacher, familiarizing themselves with curriculum, methods, and routines.

Qualifications

• Experience with young children in an early childhood setting is preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent; degree in ECE is a plus.
• Completion of the Archdiocese Safe Environment Program.
• Ability to adapt to diverse teaching styles and environments.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Classroom management and instruction, maintaining continuity in the teacher's absence.
• Promote child development through curiosity, exploration and problem-solving.
• Supervise children and support positive behavior.
• Maintain a positive, calm, and supportive interactions.
• Ensure classroom discipline and a structured learning environment.
• Maintain safety and cleanliness in and around the classroom.
• Understand nutrition, health and first aid; keep certifications up to date.
• Uphold Gospel values and Catholic teachings in daily practice.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
