Job summary

Camp Fire Heart Of Iowa seeks a part-time Before- and After-School Instructor to supervise youth in Boone, Ames, Prairie City, and Des Moines. You’ll implement safe activities, support nutritious meals, and model positive behavior while engaging children in meaningful age-appropriate programs.

Requirements include being 16+, a high school diploma or GED, passing a background check, and valid driving license.

Qualifications

• Must be 16 years of age or older.
• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
• Experience working with youth of diverse backgrounds and abilities preferred.
• Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to work with children in an enthusiastic and positive manner.
• Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships.
• Good character, integrity, patience, and adaptability.
• Have, or have the ability to complete, Mandatory Reporter, and First Aid/CPR certifications.

Responsibilities

• Directly supervise children in the Camp Fire program, ensuring the safety and well-being of students at all times.
• Be a positive role model for youth in language, dress, behavior, and attitude.
• Facilitate program activities in small group format, following prepared program plans with enthusiasm and patience for students.
• Help prepare and serve nutritious meals and snacks.
• Encourage respect for personal property and school/program equipment, vehicles, and facilities.
• Teach and explain rules and expectations to students.
• Cooperate with parents of students. Communicate any staff or parent concerns to the Administrative Team.
• Complete incident reports as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Administrative Team.
