Job summary

Camp Fire Heart Of Iowa is seeking a part-time Childcare Program Assistant to support day-to-day supervision of youth in Boone, Ames, Prairie City, and Des Moines. You will help implement safe, engaging activities and meals under the guidance of the Administrative Team.

The ideal candidate is 16+ with a high school diploma or GED, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to pass a background check. Experience with diverse youth is a plus and strong teamwork is essential.

Qualifications

• Must be 16 years of age or older.
• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Must pass a criminal background check.
• Valid driver's license with clean driving record.
• Experience with youth from diverse backgrounds; strong leadership and communication skills.
• Willingness to obtain Mandatory Reporter and First Aid/CPR certifications.

Responsibilities

• Directly supervise children in the Camp Fire program, ensuring the safety and well-being of students at all times.
• Be a positive role model for youth in language, dress, behavior, and attitude.
• Facilitate program activities in small group format, following prepared program plans with enthusiasm and patience for students.
• Help prepare and serve nutritious meals and snacks.
• Encourage respect for personal property and school/program equipment, vehicles, and facilities.
• Teach and explain rules and expectations to students.
• Cooperate with parents of students. Communicate any staff or parent concerns to the Administrative Team.
• Complete incident reports as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Administrative Team.

QUALIFICATIONS:

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential job functions.

• Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid/CPR. Must be able to assist students in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of students.
• Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate program equipment.
