Job summary

Virginia Tech in Blacksburg seeks a staff member to coordinate and support veterinary anatomy laboratories within the MDL framework. The role includes primary coordination for anatomy labs and secondary support for pathology and bacteriology across the 1st–3rd year curriculum.

Job Description

To support the College of Veterinary Medicine curriculum which is designed using the Multidiscipline Laboratory (MDL) concept where a central staff provides support and technical assistance for student labs. This position is responsible for the primary coordination and operational support of veterinary anatomy laboratories, while also providing secondary support for pathology, bacteriology, and other instructional laboratories within the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd year veterinary curriculum.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Animal Science, Veterinary Technology, or a closely related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience. Experience with veterinary anatomy, general laboratory operations, procedures, and safety practices. Proficiency in computer applications, including word processing and spreadsheet software. Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively in a team environment. Strong organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and work with minimal supervision. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with faculty, staff, and students.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with the following: supporting instructional or academic laboratory environments; preparing and maintaining laboratory specimens, cadavers, and dissection materials; necropsy procedures, anatomical dissection, and/or veterinary surgical techniques; using and maintaining microscopes and other laboratory instrumentation; laboratory inventory management, equipment maintenance, and regulatory compliance. Knowledge of sterile techniques, biosafety practices, and proper handling and disposal of biological materials. Coursework or training in veterinary anatomy, parasitology, bacteriology, and laboratory practices associated with veterinary medical education.
