Job summary

Dutch Wonderland in Pennsylvania is hiring a Line Cook to oversee the Inn Kitchen, preparing hot and cold items to company standards and ensuring safety and quality.

You will follow ServSafe and state regulations, learn the menus, assist with prep, maintain a clean station, and work flexible hours including evenings and weekends in a vibrant family-park environment.

Qualifications

  • No education requirements for this position.
  • Culinary arts education a plus, but not required.
  • 1+ year of previous experience as a chef, cook, or another culinary-related role highly desired, but not required.
  • Must be Food Handler Safety Certified (ServSafe or similar) or become so within 90 days of hire, when required by state and local guidelines.
  • Language: Ability to read, write, and speak fluent English; Spanish or other bilingual language skills are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare workstations with supplies, foods, and condiments.
  • Deliver exceptional food quality for all meals prepared.
  • Inspect and clean all food preparation areas.
  • Adhere to ServSafe, state and local regulations, company policy, and other food regulatory standards.
  • Know all food products and ingredients used.
  • Weigh, measure, and mix ingredients per recipes or judgment.
  • Assist with basic food preparation like washing, peeling, slicing fruits and vegetables.
  • Operate ovens, fryers, broilers, griddles, mixers, and knives safely.
  • Ensure proper storage temperatures for foods and ingredients.
  • Season and cook items per recipes and menus.
  • Plate prepared food appropriately.
  • Pre-portion sauces, sandwiches, and other items.

The Line Cook will be assigned oversight of Dutch Wonderland Inn Kitchen. This position will be involved in the preparation of cold and hot food that meets company standards and quality.

Roles & Responsibilities:
  • Prepare workstations with supplies, foods, and condiments
  • Focus on delivering exceptional food quality for all meals prepared
  • Inspect and clean all food preparation areas
  • Strictly abide by standards set forth by ServSafe, state and local regulations, company policy, and other food regulatory standards that may apply at Dutch Wonderland
  • Become knowledgeable of all food products and ingredients used
  • Weigh, measure, and mix ingredients using various kitchen utensils and equipment season and cook food according to recipes or personal judgment
  • Assist with basic food preparation, such as washing, peeling, slicing, fruits and vegetables
  • Utilize ovens, fryers, broilers, griddles, mixers, and knives to prepare food (age restrictions may apply)
  • Ensure food and ingredients are being properly stored at the correct temperatures
  • Seasons and cooks each item according to the recipe and menu
  • Plate the prepared food appropriately
  • Pre-portion individual packaging sauces, sandwiches, salads, and other items
  • Label and track life of stored food to ensure suitable food safety and quality
  • Rotate food items out of storage by using the newly prepped items last
  • Assist with managing kitchen inventory and replenishing food items that were used
  • Communicate with the kitchen staff to ensure a high level of safety and efficiency
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment
  • Sweep and mop floors within the food preparation areas, to ensure that food residue does not accumulate
  • Ensure that all work areas, food and equipment/utensils used are cleaned, stowed and secured in preparation for the next day’s work, in accordance with state and local sanitation protocols
  • All other duties assigned by leadership
Education and Experience:
  • No education requirements for this position

Requirements:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age to comply with PA Child Labor Laws
  • Ability to work flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to comply with all uniform policies
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from your scheduled shift
  • Must possess exceptional customer service skills, with an ability to resolve questions, problems, issues, and concerns in a positive and professional manner
  • Must possess safety-oriented mindset and understand the importance of complying with all state, and local food preparation and serving regulations
  • Ability to use kitchen equipment, knives, and appliances in a safe and effective manner
  • Must possess a general knowledge and interest in food preparation or culinary arts
  • Ability to follow direction, multi-task, and work as part of a team as well as independently
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand, walk, and remain on feet for majority of the workday
  • Ability to frequently stoop, twist, kneel, bend, squat, or reach above shoulders
  • Ability to withstand heat and humidity from the food preparation equipment
  • Ability to carry, push, pull, lift, and hold objects weighing 30 pounds or more
  • Ability to use a step ladder in a safe and proper manner
Working Conditions:
  • This role will predominantly be based in a kitchen environment
  • Potential to be asked to work in other indoor or outdoor areas of the park, as needed
  • Some exposure to the variable outside temperatures, including high heat, cold, direct sun, humidity, dust, rain, snow, ice, and other weather conditions
  • Subject to the handling of and exposure to oils, chemicals, detergents, and cleaners (age restrictions apply)
  • Subject to frequent interruptions, constant repetitive motion, high noise levels, and heavily populated environments
