CJR in Waterbury, CT is seeking a Durational Credible Messenger to mentor youth aged 13-18. The role involves guiding, supporting, and modeling positive behaviors, with a caseload of three to four youth and families. You'll monitor progress, facilitate skill-building, and advocate for educational needs.

The position is 40 hours per week, Monday–Friday, 9:00am–5:00pm, at a rate of $21.22 per hour. A valid driver’s license is required, and prior justice-system involvement is valued.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Must be at least 21 years old with a valid driver’s license.
• Personal experience with the justice system or community involvement strongly valued.
• Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus but not required.
• Strong advocacy and crisis intervention skills.
• Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.

Responsibilities

• Develop a therapeutic mentoring relationship with youth.
• Provide group-based skill-building lessons and activities.
• Connect youth with pro-social activities and encourage community involvement.
• Help clients and families obtain proper educational support.
• Maintain regular communication with Probation Officer.
• Submit monthly written progress notes.
• Complete individual service plans and discharge summaries.
• Be accessible to youth and families, including 24/7 crisis intervention support.

About The Program:

The DurationalCredible Messenger program is a community-based mentoring approach where individuals with shared lived experiences, particularly those with past involvement in the justice system, mentor and support high risk young people aged 13-18. This program leverages the Messenger's credibility and understanding of the community to foster positive change in the mentee.

About This Position:

The DurationalCredible Messenger provides guidance, support, and role-modeling to help youth navigate challenges, develop positive behaviours, and make healthier choices. They will hold a caseload of three to four youth and families and provide intensive monitoring, facilitate skill‑building lessons, empowering families and provide advocacy.

• Develop a therapeutic mentoring relationship with youth

• Connect youth with pro‑social activities and encourage community involvement
• Help clients and families obtain proper educational support
• Keep in regular communication with Probation Officer
• Submit monthly written progress notes
• Complete individual service plan and discharge summary documentation
• Will be accessible as needed to youth and families including 24/7 access for crisis intervention

Schedule & Rate of Pay:

• Monday-Friday 40 hours per week
  • 9:00am-5:00pm
• Rate of pay is $21.22 per hour
• This is a duration position, meaning the position would end after its duration has concluded. There is no scheduled end date for the position, as it is determined by the client's needs and the funding for this role.

Job Requirements:

• High School Diploma/GED–Required
• Must be at least 21 years of age with a valid Driver's License–Required
• Personal experience with the justice system, involvement with the local community, or overcoming significant life challenges–Required
