Job description

PRIMARY FUNCTION

Weld all types of worn or damaged metal parts and equipment as specified by blueprints, sketches, or diagrams. Must be able to cut patterns and perform vertical overhead and horizontal welding. Must have a basic understanding of metal properties and be able to set up and efficiently operate a wide range of welding equipment.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT

Welding machines, such as MIG, stick, submerged arc, etc.; air arc, cutting torch, pattern cutter, grinders, hoists, tow motor, etc.

SAMPLE WORK PROCEDURE
  1. Examine blueprints to determine necessary repairs to be made. Use necessary equipment to affect repairs.
  2. Cut patterns from stock.
  3. Use cutting torch or air arc to remove defective parts from main assembly.
  4. Examine work piece to verify conformance to specifications.
  5. Use grinder to clean welds.
  6. When required, use tow motor or hoist to move or position work piece.
  7. Obey all safety rules and perform housekeeping assignments.

COMPETENCY CHECKLIST
  1. Use basic math.
  2. Perform metric conversions.
  3. Read weldment drawings.

  6. Proper fork truck operation.

  8. Safety training (Haz-Com, Lock Out / Tag Out, Confined Space, BBP, High Voltage, Lifting).
  9. Knowledgeable of ISO.

  12. MIG weld / stick weld.
  13. Air arc.
  14. Familiar with Burn Table operation.
  15. Use cutting torch.
  16. Operate grinders.
  17. Operate iron worker.
  18. Operate band saw.
  19. Familiar with drum lacing machine.
  20. Operate press brake.
  21. Familiar with bore tech operation.
  22. Certified welder.
