PRIMARY FUNCTION

Weld all types of worn or damaged metal parts and equipment according to blueprints, sketches, or diagrams. Capable of cutting patterns and performing vertical overhead and horizontal welding. Must understand metal properties and efficiently operate a wide range of welding equipment.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT

Welding machines (MIG, stick, submerged arc, etc.), air arc, cutting torch, pattern cutter, grinders, hoists, tow motor, etc.

SAMPLE WORK PROCEDURE

1. Examine blueprints to determine necessary repairs and use appropriate equipment to make repairs.
2. Cut patterns from stock materials.
3. Use cutting torch or air arc to remove defective parts.
4. Verify workpiece conformance to specifications.
5. Clean welds with grinder.
6. Use tow motor or hoist to move or position workpieces when needed.
7. Follow safety rules and maintain cleanliness.
