Job summary

The School City of Hammond is seeking a Dual Language Immersion (DLI) teacher responsible for the academic, social, and emotional growth of students in classrooms. You will collaborate with school personnel, parents, and community members to foster a supportive learning environment.

Job description

General Summary

Dual Language Immersion (DLI) teacher reports directly to the building principal. He/she is responsible for the academic, social, and emotional growth of students. The DLI teacher collaborates with school personnel, parents, and community members to promote the core purposes and goals of the Dual Language Immersion Program.

Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in education
ENL/ESL Endorsement (Preferred)
  • Indiana educator’s license (Current)
  • Instructional experience in second language acquisition or bilingual education
  • Advanced written and oral proficiency in English and Spanish (Required)
  • SIOP and WIDA Trained
  • Proficiency in Spanish - Reading, Writing, Speaking, and Listening
  • Ability to teach content in Spanish
Specific Responsibilities
  • Creating and implementing the Dual Language Curriculum
  • Provide individualized as well as whole group language instruction
  • Develop academic language for student success in content areas
  • Evaluate and keep grades, absentees for each student in a formal record/computer grade book
  • Responsible for creating and implementing lesson plans that meet Indiana/WIDA/ISTE standards
  • Responsible for maintenance of an attractive, neat classroom that presents an atmosphere conducive to language learning
  • Teaches core content areas in the target language (language arts, math, social studies, science) using the Indiana Academic Standards
  • Able to integrate both English and the target language in the teaching of grade level content
  • Possesses demonstrated oral and written fluency in both English and the target language
  • Collaborates with staff, administrators, and parents in the development and implementation of cultural programs/opportunities for students
  • Able to work with students and parents who are culturally, racially and linguistically diverse
  • Other duties as assigned by building/district administration
