Qualifications

  • 1. The appropriate teaching certification.
  • 2. Must demonstrate continued professional development through coursework, research and peer collaboration.
  • 3. Considerable knowledge of the core curriculum areas the teacher is responsible for instructing.
  • 4. Considerable knowledge of educational philosophy, teaching methods and approaches, current researched best practices and strategies.
  • 5. Considerable knowledge of students' learning styles and needs, both academic and affective.
  • 6. Considerable knowledge of multicultural, gender and disability fair curriculum concepts.
  • 7. Considerable knowledge of classroom management techniques.
  • 8. Working knowledge of instructional technologies.
  • 9. Considerable skill in classroom presentation.
  • 10. Considerable skill in classroom management and organization.
  • 11. Working skill in maintaining records and developing reports.
  • 12. Considerable ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing target language
  • 13. Considerable ability to plan and implement lessons based upon district and school goals and objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned.
  • 14. Considerable ability to provide appropriate instruction in core subjects.
  • 15. Considerable ability to adapt teaching styles to diverse student populations.
  • 16. Considerable ability to interact effectively with students, parents, other school staff, administration and community members of diverse ethnic/racial and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • 17. Considerable ability to evaluate student performance and to present these evaluations in a manner that fosters higher student achievement.
  • 18. Considerable ability to work in a cooperative learning environment.
  • 19. Working ability to utilize computer and multimedia technology as appropriate.
  • 20. Demonstrated content knowledge and ability to use precise and/or academic language in both English and the target language for subjects/levels being taught.
  • 21. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with parents, students, and staff in English and the target language of instruction.
  • 22. Knowledge of and ability to use multiple assessments, instruction, and evaluation techniques that are proven effective in dual language education.
  • 23. Knowledge and skill in the use of effective strategies necessary to meet the diverse needs of students in a dual language immersion classroom.
  • 24. Knowledge and skill in culturally responsive teaching and learning.

Responsibilities

  • 1. Provide instruction in the core curriculum areas(s) for which employed; make appropriate use of instructional resources and technologies.
  • 2. Implement the goals and objectives of the District and the school and/or program for which employed.
  • 3. Follow the prescribed course of study, except as authorized in the curriculum outlines or by the principals or other official rules and regulations.
  • 4. Evaluate student performance according to system used by school and/or District; promote student achievement; maintain required student records; make related reports to the principal as prescribed or authorized by the superintendent.
  • 5. Maintain contact and communications with parents of students and work with them in the development of each student.
  • 6. Perform classroom management duties; enforce District rules governing the conduct of students; take appropriate disciplinary action with students who do not follow District rules.
  • 7. Enforce District guidelines in regard to health and hygienic conditions and practices in the classroom as they may affect the physical and mental health of students.
