Position Summary:Position Summary:The Dual Enrollment (Open Campus) Academic Advisor is responsible for managing the assigned open campus dual enrollment caseloadof students and providing comprehensive academic advising that supports FCC’s guided pathways. This position delivers effective and holistic advising support services across multiple academic disciplines, acting as an essential resource and single point of contact for students from enrollment through completion of their educational goals. Using the guided pathways principles, the Dual Enrollment (Open Campus) Academic Advisor will assist with clarifying students’ educational path through the development of academic plans, guiding students while on the path by monitoring academic progress and key performance metrics, career/transfer goals and providing the necessary supports and resources to help students stay on their planned paths. This position must work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community such as FCC staff and FCPS staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:The following are the functions essential to performing this job:1. Provide holistic academic advising services to Dual Enrollment (Open Campus) students across multiple disciplines, including interpretation of placement tests/exemptions, degree plans, transfer requirements, career guidance and academic policies.2. Assist students in the development of academic planning to include choosing a program/major of study prior to course selections, planning course sequences with degree plans, and clarifying educational goals and pathways that support student success, retention, and completion.3. Provide guidance and educate students on planning schedules and registering for courses and referring them to relevant campus resources to meet their needs.4. Ensure students understand content and structure of FCC programming including graduation and/or transfer requirements for specific programs of study as assigned.5. Serve as the point of contact to inform students about alternatives, limitations and possible consequences of academic decisions (e.g. adding, dropping and withdrawing from courses; change of program/plan, major selection and/or transfer institutions).6. Participate in advising initiatives that targets the dual enrollment student population by matriculation into undergraduate students at FCC, directing them to their assigned advisor in CAPS, open campus student orientations and monitoring students that are at-risk.7. Promote student success by identifying and referring at risk students to the appropriate resources and track follow-through for data collection and reporting.8. Collaborate with academic program managers and department chairs to establish advising structures that promote student success and increase retention and program completion efforts.9. Attends regular off-site (high school visits) to share knowledge of career pathways offered at FCC through advising.10. Evaluate individual students’ academic progress; including monitoring and responding to Student Early Alerts by assigned program/discipline.11. Proactively conduct student outreach to students (current and returning) during specific times within each semester, monitoring progress toward educational goals.12. Manage all aspects of scheduling for student appointments in caseload, document interactions, and complete additional administrative tasks as needed.13. Examine dual enrollment prospective students for College and Career Readiness.14. Participate in comprehensive trainings and team meetings to identify innovative ways to conduct academic advising, transfer advising, and career advising in support of goal completion.15. Maintain compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and demonstrate a working knowledge of the law.16. Apply best practices while providing students with both academic and career services.
