Overview

POSITION SUMMARY


The Technical Services Supervisor is responsible for leading the daily execution and continued development of the Technical Services department. This position provides direct supervision to assigned field personnel and ensures work is performed safely, efficiently, profitably, and in accordance with company, customer, and contractual requirements. The role is responsible for workforce coordination, project and contract management, employee development, customer communication, and collaboration with other internal departments including Safety, Quality, Operations, and Finance. Primary purpose of this position is to build the operational capacity, structure, and field leadership necessary to support the continued growth of the Technical Services department.


Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES


FIELD LEADERSHIP AND WORKFORCE MANAGEMENT



  • Promote a safety-first culture and ensure compliance with company, customer, airport, regulatory and contractual requirements.

  • Lead, coach, develop, and hold assigned field personnel accountable.

  • Establish expectations for safety, quality, productivity, communication, documentation, and customer service.

  • Coordinate personnel assignments based on project needs, qualifications, availability, and development opportunities.

  • Maintain resource schedules and identify staffing, training, or skill gaps that may affect current or future work.

  • Support recruiting, onboarding, performance evaluations, employee development, and succession planning.

  • Develop employees for increased technical, project leadership, and supervisory responsibilities.

  • Work closely with Safety and Quality personnel to improve planning, workmanship, inspections, documentation, and corrective actions.

  • Monitor labor utilization, travel costs, project expenses, material usage, and budget performance.

  • Promote accurate timekeeping, expense reporting, project coding, and field documentation.


PROJECT MANAGEMENT AND EXECUTION



  • Manage or support projects from initial planning through completion and customer turnover.

  • Review project scope, schedule, budget, technical requirements, assumptions, exclusions, and customer expectations.

  • Coordinate labor, travel, materials, tools, equipment, subcontractors, OEM support, and site access.

  • Monitor project performance, including safety, quality, labor, cost, schedule, documentation, and customer commitments.

  • Identify and address project risks, delays, technical issues, resource constraints, and potential cost impacts.

  • Ensure changed conditions and additional work are documented and communicated appropriately.

  • Coordinate testing, commissioning, punch-list completion, customer acceptance, and project closeout.

  • Support project forecasting, billing documentation, change-order development, contract compliance, and profitability improvement.


CONTRACT MANAGEMENT



  • Review and understand customer contracts, scopes of work, proposals, purchase orders, and project requirements.

  • Ensure contractual deliverables, documentation requirements, and customer obligations are completed in accordance with project requirements.

  • Identify potential scope changes, changed conditions, delays, and additional work requiring customer approval or change orders.

  • Coordinate with leadership and internal departments regarding contractual obligations and risks.

  • Protect the company’s contractual, operational, and financial interests while maintaining positive customer relationships.


CUSTOMER AND STAKEHOLDER MANAGEMENT



  • Serve as a primary field-level representative of Technical Services.

  • Build effective working relationships with customers, airport authorities, airlines, contractors, consultants, OEMs, vendors, and internal stakeholders.

  • Lead or participate in project kickoff, coordination, progress, and closeout meetings.

  • Provide timely and accurate updates regarding project status, risks, schedules, and required actions.

  • Resolve routine field and customer issues and escalating significant concerns when necessary.

  • Manage customer expectations while protecting company scope, schedule, financial, and contractual interests.


DEPARTMENT GROWTH AND CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT



  • Partner with leadership and other internal departments to develop and improve departmental procedures, work instructions, checklists, templates, technical references, and project standards.

  • Develop and maintain short and long-term workforce and project resource plans to support customer commitments and departmental growth.

  • Help identify future staffing, leadership, training, tooling, equipment, and subcontractor needs.

  • Standardize project planning, field reporting, mobilization, commissioning, turnover, and closeout practices.

  • Support estimates, proposals, site assessments, labor planning, technical reviews, and project transitions.

  • Identify operational barriers that could limit growth and recommend practical solutions.

  • Use lessons learned, field feedback, safety findings, and quality results to improve future performance.


When field personnel are not assigned to projects or customer sites, the Technical Services Supervisor will coordinate meaningful work that supports department readiness, employee development, and organizational growth.


Assignments may include:



  • Developing procedures, training materials, technical guides, and project templates.

  • Supporting remote troubleshooting and active field teams.

  • Preparing project work packages, reports, schedules, and closeout documentation.

  • Assisting with estimates, proposals, technical reviews, and project planning.

  • Updating technical libraries, SharePoint resources, CMMS records, and equipment information.

  • Reviewing drawings, manuals, reports, lessons learned, tools, equipment, and inventory.

  • Supporting Safety, Quality, Operations, and other departmental initiatives.

  • Internal assignments should include a defined owner, deliverable, due date, and completion expectation.


Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS



  • At least 5 years of experience in field service, airport equipment, industrial maintenance, automation, material-handling systems, or a related technical environment.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of technical project requirements, airport regulations, and safety standards.

  • Previous experience supervising or leading technical personnel.

  • Demonstrated experience coordinating multiple projects, schedules, resources, customers, contracts, and field documentation.

  • Experience reviewing project scopes, customer requirements, change orders, and other contractual documents is preferred.

  • Experience developing or improving processes, procedures, or work standards.

  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and critical thinking skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and geographically dispersed personnel.

  • Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, controls, automation, or industrial equipment systems.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and the ability to learn company project, scheduling, financial, CMMS, and document-management systems.

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain required airport and customer credentials.

  • Ability to travel and support nonstandard work schedules when required.


An associate or bachelor’s degree in engineering technology, project management, construction management, industrial technology, business, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent technical training, leadership experience, and relevant field experience may be considered.


Experience with airport infrastructure, project and contract management practices, OSHA requirements, continuous improvement, SharePoint, Microsoft Project, Planner, CMMS, or ERP systems is preferred.
