Job Description

We are seeking a Floating Direct Support Professional (Weekends/PT) to join our compassionate team! In this role, you will assist individuals with developmental disabilities and other special needs in their homes or community settings. Your responsibilities will vary depending on the clients you support, and you'll have the flexibility to work in different locations as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Provide support with daily activities such as personal care, medication reminders, and meal preparation.
  • Assist clients in achieving personal goals, enhancing independence, and participating in community activities.
  • Support clients with mobility needs, including transfers and lifting.
  • Ensure client safety and well-being by following individualized care plans.
  • Document client progress and communicate with other team members and family members as necessary.
  • Be flexible and adaptable to changes in scheduling and client needs.
  • Float between various client homes and shifts based on staffing needs.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education in social services or healthcare preferred.
  • 2-3 years of experience in direct care (personal care aide, DSP, etc.) Required.
  • Must have valid CPR/First Aid certification (or be willing to obtain upon hiring).
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Flexible schedule, including evenings, and holidays.
  • Reliable transportation required.
Additional Qualifications
  • Understanding and respecting the diverse backgrounds, cultures, and preferences of clients.
  • Floating positions typically require availability for various shifts, which could include nights, or holidays.
  • Since you'll be floating between clients and settings, you must be willing to learn and adapt to different care plans, client preferences, and team dynamics.
Job-Specific Skills
  • In a floating position, you might need to handle different clients or tasks at the same time, so time management skills are key.
  • Although you may work independently, you'll also need to work well with other DSPs, supervisors, and family members.
  • This can include assisting with bathing, dressing, eating, and other personal care needs for individuals with disabilities.
  • You may need to travel between locations (client homes or group homes), so having reliable transportation is often a requirement.
Physical and Mental Endurance
  • The role may require lifting, bending, and being physically active for extended periods. The ability to assist with mobility (e.g., transferring a person from a bed to a wheelchair) might be necessary.
  • The job can be emotionally and mentally demanding, so having the ability to remain calm under stress and handle difficult situations with empathy is important.
Personal Characteristics
  • You should genuinely care about the well-being of others, particularly individuals with disabilities. Patience is crucial, as you will be helping with various tasks, often in unpredictable situations.
  • Since the floating position means moving between various shifts or clients, you must be dependable and adaptable to changing schedules and environments.
  • Effective communication is vital to understanding the needs of the individuals you are supporting and conveying information to colleagues, families, or supervisors.
