Washington State Department of Social and Health Services is seeking a Food Program and Support Services Manager to lead food and custodial services residents and staff rely on daily. You will fill vacancies, develop people, and strengthen cross‑department partnerships to keep operations reliable. This onsite role runs Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m.
to 4:00 p.m., with daily ferry and bus travel. You’ll coach teams, set clear expectations, manage staffing and budgets, and build lasting processes
Good operations start with a team that can count on each other.
As the Food Program and Support Services Manager, you'll lead food and custodial services that residents and staff depend on every day. Your challenge is to keep those services reliable while building a team that can handle changing priorities, solve problems, and take ownership of its work. That means filling vacancies, developing people, and strengthening relationships across departments.
The opportunity is to build something that lasts.
You enjoy developing people as much as managing operations. You set clear expectations, coach different personalities, and know when to step in or let others lead. You're comfortable with days that don't go as planned and understand that being present, building trust, and working across departments are essential to getting results.
are about learning the operation and earning trust. You'll get to know your team, understand staffing and service needs, and build relationships with other departments. From there, you'll begin filling vacancies, strengthening daily operations, and helping staff become more confident and independent.
Within your first year, success means reliable services and a fully staffed team that can manage daily operations without depending on you for every decision.
And there's life outside of work to consider. Steilacoom offers a quieter waterfront setting, parks, and views of Puget Sound. If you enjoy being near the water and spending time outdoors, the area has plenty to offer. This is an onsite position, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The role also requires willingness to travel by ferry and bus daily, so the commute is an important part of deciding whether this opportunity fits your life.
