Job description

DSHS FTA - Maintenance Mechanic 2

We have an opportunity for a journey-level tradesperson in maintenance, repair, alteration, and operation at the Child Study Treatment Center, located at the Western State Hospital campus.

As part of the Finance, Technology and Analytics Administration (FTAA) within the Maintenance and Operations Division, you will assist in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, painting, carpentry, grounds maintenance, and repairs.

We are seeking a Maintenance Mechanic to work at Child Study Treatment Center.

Pierce County employees are eligible for an Orca Card for transportation needs.

Responsibilities include:
  1. Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on mechanical equipment such as laundry, kitchen, hospital, laboratory, and air conditioning equipment.
  2. Maintain, operate, and repair electrical, mechanical, and structural systems of buildings and utility distribution.
  3. Monitor safety, fire protection, and environmental control systems to ensure proper operation.
  4. Respond to service requests and secure assistance as needed.
  5. Take preventative and emergency actions to address malfunctions.
  6. Operate hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment.
  7. Work from plans, sketches, or drawings.
  8. Estimate materials required for jobs.
Qualifications:
  • Ability to perform essential functions successfully.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Appropriate work attire including PPE when necessary.
  • Knowledge of mechanical trades practices, safety precautions, record keeping, and basic computer skills.
Who should apply?

  • Valid driver’s license.
  • At least 4 years of experience in maintenance, construction, or repair work, or completion of a recognized apprenticeship.
