DSHS FTA - Maintenance Mechanic 2

We have a great opportunity for you to join our team as a journey-level tradesperson in maintenance, repair, alteration, and operation within the Child Study Treatment Center, located at the Western State Hospital campus.

As a member of the Finance, Technology and Analytics Administration (FTAA) team within our Maintenance and Operations Division, you will assist the maintenance shop performing HVAC, electrical, plumbing, painting, carpentry, grounds maintenance, and repairs.

We are seeking a Maintenance Mechanic to join our team working at Child Study Treatment Center.

Pierce County employees are eligible to receive an Orca Card for transportation needs.

Some of what you'll do:
  1. Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on mechanical equipment such as laundry and kitchen equipment; hospital, laboratory, and air conditioning equipment.
  2. Maintain, operate, and repair electrical, mechanical, and structural systems of buildings and utility distribution.
  3. Monitor safety, fire protection, and environmental control equipment to ensure proper operation.
  4. Respond to service requests and secure necessary assistance.
  5. Take preventative and emergency actions to address malfunctions.
  6. Operate hand tools, power tools, and other shop equipment.
  7. Work from plans, sketches, or drawings.
  8. Estimate materials needed for jobs.
What we are looking for:
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the role.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written, with management, peers, clients, and the public.
  • Appropriate dress for the work, including Personal Protective Equipment when necessary.
  • Knowledge of standard practices, methods, materials, tools, equipment of mechanical trades, safety precautions, record keeping, and basic computer skills.
Who should apply?
  • High school diploma/GED.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • At least 4 years of experience in building and equipment maintenance, construction, or repair work, or completion of a recognized apprenticeship in a skilled mechanical trade.
