Job description

DSHS SCC Custodian 4-Supervisor

We are seeking an experienced Custodian 4 to join our team. You will supervise a crew of resident workers and provide training in general custodial duties and heavy equipment operation for maintaining floors, carpets, and upholstery at the Special Commitment Center in Steilacoom, WA.

SCC employees also receive an additional $10 per day premium pay in addition to the advertised salary and a free ORCA card for transportation use. Ferry transportation is provided to McNeil Island employees.

Opportunities performed on-site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary.

Some of what you will do:
  • Supervise, direct, instruct, and assist employees and resident workers in cleaning and housekeeping duties within the facility
  • Instruct employees and resident workers in approved cleaning practices and methods
  • Oversee training and supervision of staff and resident workers performing housekeeping tasks. Train employees in supervisory techniques, new products, and equipment use
  • Schedule and assign work to employees and resident workers
  • Escort residents to and from work, inspect work details, and report on cleaned areas
  • Evaluate staff and resident crew performance using established standards and provide counseling as needed
  • Perform or recommend corrective or disciplinary actions when necessary
  • Interview personnel for employment consideration and make recommendations to the supervisor
  • Coordinate work schedules and workload for staff and resident work crews
  • Order custodial supplies and equipment
  • Distribute supplies to work crews as needed

  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs regularly, and 45 lbs occasionally
  • Effective communication skills with team members and staff
  • Basic computer skills including email and internet use

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to stand and move around for long periods to perform duties
