Job summary

General Dynamics NASSCO in Norfolk, VA, seeks a Drydock Machinist J2-J4 to perform fabrications, repairs and assembly in the drydock environment. Qualifications

• Must be able to navigate a ship, the drydock, and understand compartment designation.
• Strong ability to read technical publications and drawings.
• Able to diagnose and repair drydock machinery with minimal supervision.
• Proficient with common shop and hand tools.

Responsibilities

• Ensure tanks/compartments have updated safe for hot work tickets.
• Verify tank/compartment conditions remain as written.
• Ensure WAF ticket is posted for the specific job.
• Address safety issues and ensure proper PPE and procedures are followed.
• Receive required training for assigned work (e.g., welding, electrical, mechanical).
• Maintain safety and productivity, ensuring high-quality work.
• Leave job site safe and clean at completion.
• Complete assignments with no supervision.
