Job summary

Hawaiian Dredging Construction Company, Inc. is seeking a Dry Dock Survey Manager to oversee all project survey activities, establish and maintain survey control, and support construction execution from planning through closeout.

The role leads survey teams, coordinates with engineers, project management and field operations, and ensures compliance with specifications, safety, and quality standards. Ideal candidate has a civil engineering or surveying background with 8+ years of experience and

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Surveying, Geomatics, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum eight (8) years of relevant survey and construction experience.
  • Demonstrated experience managing surveying operations on large-scale construction projects.
  • Strong knowledge of construction surveying principles, methods, and best practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with engineers, superintendents, architects, subcontractors, and clients.

  • Ensure survey work is performed in accordance with company standards, project requirements, and applicable regulations.
  • Maintain survey records, documentation, and reporting requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with project teams to achieve maximum efficiency and productivity.

DRY DOCK - SURVEY MANAGER (Regular Full Time)

JOB OVERVIEW

The Survey Manager is responsible for overseeing all project survey activities and ensuring accurate, timely, and efficient survey support throughout the lifecycle of construction projects. This position provides leadership for project surveying operations, establishes and maintains survey control, manages survey resources and quality control processes, and works closely with engineering and field operations teams to support project execution.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university; Civil Engineering, Surveying, Geomatics, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum eight (8) years of relevant survey and construction experience.
  • Demonstrated experience managing surveying operations on large-scale construction projects.
  • Strong knowledge of construction surveying principles, methods, and best practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with engineers, superintendents, architects, subcontractors, and clients.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and the capability to resolve complex survey and construction challenges.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply construction drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to identify discrepancies in plans, layouts, and field conditions.
  • Proficiency with modern survey equipment including GPS/GNSS, robotic total stations, and data collectors.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, MicroStation, and other survey-related software applications.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and related business software.
  • Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and team management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure while coordinating multiple priorities and stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of the organization.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license or ability to obtain licensure.
  • Experience with heavy civil, infrastructure, marine, transportation, or commercial construction projects.
  • Experience implementing survey quality control programs.
  • Knowledge of drone/UAS survey applications, LiDAR, and 3D modeling technologies.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • While performing the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to visit and inspect active construction sites.
  • Ability to access all areas of a construction jobsite, including uneven terrain, elevated work locations, and confined work areas when necessary.
  • May be exposed to varying weather conditions, noise, dust, and other environmental conditions associated with construction operations.
  • Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and comply with all safety requirements.
