The City of Greeley is seeking a Drug Task Force Criminalist to perform advanced investigative and analytical work in support of complex investigations. This non-sworn professional resource evaluates information, identifies evidentiary value, and supports court processes while advising on the use of technical surveillance systems.

The role requires discretion, independent judgment, and strong knowledge of criminal investigations, evidence handling, and surveillance technologies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or related field, or Colorado POST Certification.
  • Four years total relevant experience.
  • 2–4 years in criminal investigations, intelligence, forensic support, or related field.
  • 2–4 years handling evidence and maintaining chain of custody.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license.
  • Certifications including NCIC/CCIC within established timelines.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts complex criminal and drug-related investigations involving multiple sources of information, records, interviews, surveillance data, observations, and interagency coordination.
  • Gathers, verifies, analyzes, and interprets evidence, documents, records, logs, and investigative information to identify relevant facts, patterns, leads, and evidentiary significance.
  • Determines investigative scope, priorities, timing, and direction, and modifies approach based on findings.
  • Examines, preserves, and documents evidence while maintaining chain of custody and evidentiary integrity.
  • Prepares detailed investigative reports, case summaries, affidavits, and supporting documentation for warrants and prosecutions.
  • Communicates confidential investigative information with law enforcement personnel and prosecutors as appropriate to ongoing investigations.

2–4 years in criminal investigations
Evidence handling and chain of custody
Certifications including NCIC/CCIC
Bilingual English/Spanish

Education

Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or related field / Colorado POST Certification
