Job summary

Bristol Alliance of Companies (Bristol) in Hawaii seeks a Drop Installer I to join our team and support telecom cable installation for residential and commercial customers. You will assist with fiber/Copper wiring, install enclosures, and help connect premises to the network while maintaining safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities include installing aerial/underground cables, testing signals, documenting work, and helping teammates as needed.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 0 to 6 months of experience in the field or related area.
  • Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Installing and configuring cable systems (internet, TV, phone).
  • Placing aerial and underground cable to customer premises.
  • Installing enclosures, vaults, and other infrastructure components.
  • Marking facilities to identify and trace wiring.
  • Performing fiber optic splicing and repairs as needed.
  • Carrying out general construction tasks and transporting equipment.
  • Conducting signal testing and troubleshooting for service quality.
  • Restoring landscape after project completion.
  • Keeping tools and equipment organized and in good condition.
  • Completing paperwork and documenting work performed.
  • Assisting higher-level installers when required.
  • Following safety guidelines, OSHA/NESC standards, and company protocols.
  • Providing excellent customer service and equipment instructions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Summary

A Drop Installer I is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of telecommunications cables, such as fiber optic cable and traditional copper wiring, connecting residential and commercial properties to the network.

Essential Functions
  • Installing and configuring various cable systems, including internet, television, and phone services.
  • Placing aerial and underground cable to connect customer premises.
  • Installing enclosures (pedestals, handholes), vaults, and other infrastructure components.
  • Marking/labeling facilities to identify and trace wiring.
  • Assisting with or performing fiber optic splicing and repairs.
  • Performing general construction labor, potentially including transporting equipment, installing cables using trenching, plowing, or boring techniques.
  • Conducting signal testing and troubleshooting to ensure optimal service performance.
  • Restoring landscape after project completion.
  • Maintaining tools and equipment, ensuring they are organized and in good working conditions.
  • Completing all necessary paperwork and documenting work performed.
  • Provide assistance to Drop Installers II & III when necessary.
  • Following all safety guidelines, company protocols, and industry standards (e.g., OSHA, NESC).
  • Providing excellent customer service, including explaining services, answering questions, and providing equipment instructions.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Competencies
  • Technical Aptitude: Basic understanding of telecommunication products and services, including fiber optics and/or copper facilities. Familiarity with tools and equipment used in cable installation (e.g., fiber optic splicers, cleavers, strippers, trenching equipment). Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose issues.
  • Safety Awareness: Adherence to safety protocols and procedures, including OSHA guidelines and working in hazardous conditions (heights, confined spaces, inclement weather).
  • Physical Stamina & Dexterity: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, such as climbing ladders, lifting heavy objects (up to 50-80 lbs.), digging, kneeling, and working in tight or uncomfortable spaces (attics, crawl spaces).
  • Customer Service Skills: Effective communication, patience, professionalism, and the ability to build rapport with clients.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Identifying the root cause of problems and implementing efficient solutions.
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to manage tasks, appointments, and materials efficiently.
  • Dependability: Reliability and accountability in meeting deadlines and completing tasks.
  • Learning Agility: Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and processes.
  • Ability to work on-call, weekend, and holidays.
