Job summary

TMS International is seeking a Drop Ball Crane Operator to join our Axis, AL team. You will operate overhead cranes with drop ball attachments to break up scrap metal and other materials while ensuring safe, efficient material movement inside the steel mill.

The role requires 1-2 years of crane operation experience, high attention to safety, and a valid NCCCO certification. Expect a 2-2-3 rotating swing shift, with an hourly pay rate of $24.00–$28.00, and overtime as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1-2 years of crane operator experience (steel mill experience preferred).
• Valid crane operator certification (NCCCO or equivalent).
• Ability to operate overhead cranes safely in a high-temperature, noisy environment.

Responsibilities

• Operate overhead cranes with drop ball attachments to break up scrap metal and other materials.
• Ensure safe and efficient movement of materials within the mill.
• Maintain equipment and conduct routine inspections for safe operation.
• Follow safety protocols and work with a team to meet safety standards.
• Assist in material loading/unloading as needed.
• Document crane operations and report malfunctions to maintenance.
