Job summary

Wing is offering a 12-week paid Hardware Reliability Internship in Palo Alto, CA. The role focuses on evaluating aircraft hardware reliability, developing tests, and performing failure analysis to improve drone and ground infrastructure robustness.

The ideal student will pursue a BS or MS in CS/Engineering, with Python and lab-testing skills, and be available for May or June start. This hybrid, in-person program belongs to Alphabet's Wing unit.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; graduating between Dec 2027 and Aug 2028.
• Proficiency in Python or similar programming language for instrument control or data analysis.
• Familiarity with power systems, electrical fundamentals, and test methodology for electromechanical systems.
• Hands-on lab experience with hardware testing and failure inspection.
• Able to construct and follow a detailed hardware test plan.
• Experience with data acquisition, logging, and analysis (temperature, force, current, voltage).
• Ability to work independently and communicate findings to cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Design test fixtures to stress, validate, and characterize aircraft subsystems under various conditions.
• Select, build, and maintain DAQ systems and automated test scripts.
• Plan and execute testing for propulsion, camera, comms, and power delivery systems.
• Assist in evaluating field failures and manufacturing issues through analysis and DOE.
• Collect and analyze field and test data for root cause analysis.
• Assess failure modes and create FMEAs for design improvements.
• Produce procedures to reliably execute test plans.
