The Helmsman Group LLC is seeking a Driver for a remote role within the United States. The Driver will support safe and efficient operation of the fleet, perform pre/post-trip inspections, coordinate movements, and maintain fleet records.

Responsibilities include reporting maintenance issues, ensuring vehicles are ready for service, and coordinating with Fleet Management and Operations teams to optimize utilization and compliance.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid driver’s license for assigned vehicles.
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) where required by position.
  • 1-3 years of experience in fleet operations, driving, logistics, or vehicle operations preferred.
  • Knowledge of vehicle safety, inspection, and basic maintenance procedures.

Job Summary

The Fleet Operations Driver supports the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of the organization's vehicle fleet. This position is responsible for operating assigned vehicles, conducting inspections, coordinating vehicle movements, maintaining accurate fleet records, reporting maintenance and safety issues, and supporting day-to-day transportation and fleet activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate company vehicles safely and responsibly according to assigned schedules and routes.
  • Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of assigned vehicles.
  • Identify and report mechanical, safety, operational, or maintenance issues promptly.
  • Coordinate vehicle movements, assignments, pickups, deliveries, transfers, and fleet-related activities.
  • Maintain accurate vehicle mileage, fuel usage, inspection, maintenance, and operating records.
  • Ensure vehicles are properly fueled, clean, secure, and ready for service.
  • Coordinate with Fleet Management, Maintenance, Dispatch, Logistics, and Operations teams regarding vehicle availability and requirements.
  • Assist with scheduling vehicles for preventive maintenance, inspections, repairs, and servicing.
  • Monitor vehicle maintenance schedules and report upcoming service requirements.
  • Coordinate vehicle drop-off and pickup for maintenance or repair appointments.
  • Verify that assigned vehicles have required registrations, permits, inspection documentation, and safety equipment.
  • Maintain accurate driver and vehicle documentation as required.
  • Report accidents, traffic incidents, vehicle damage, breakdowns, and other fleet-related events.
  • Follow established procedures for accident reporting and emergency response.
  • Assist with vehicle assignments and fleet utilization activities.
  • Support efficient use of vehicles by following approved routes, schedules, and operating procedures.
  • Monitor fuel consumption and report unusual fuel usage or vehicle performance concerns.
  • Use fleet-management systems, GPS, electronic logs, mobile applications, and other transportation technology.
  • Complete required electronic or paper vehicle inspection and activity reports.
  • Assist with vehicle inventory and tracking of fleet equipment, keys, fuel cards, safety equipment, and other assigned assets.
  • Ensure vehicles are parked and secured appropriately when not in use.
  • Assist with vehicle transfers between company locations, service facilities, dealerships, and other authorized destinations.
  • Support vehicle onboarding and offboarding activities, including inspections and documentation.
  • Assist with fleet audits, vehicle record reviews, and compliance checks.
  • Follow all applicable transportation laws, traffic regulations, safety standards, and company fleet policies.
  • Maintain any required driver's license, commercial driver's license, certifications, or endorsements.
  • Protect company vehicles, equipment, cargo, documents, and other fleet assets.
  • Maintain professional communication with drivers, supervisors, maintenance providers, vendors, customers, and other stakeholders.
  • Identify opportunities to improve vehicle utilization, maintenance coordination, fuel efficiency, safety, and fleet operations.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid driver's license appropriate for assigned vehicles.
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) where required by the position.
  • 1-3 years of experience in fleet operations, commercial driving, transportation, logistics, or vehicle operations preferred.
  • Knowledge of vehicle safety, inspection, and basic maintenance procedures.
  • Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills.
  • Good communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to follow safety procedures and transportation regulations.
  • Ability to identify and report vehicle safety or mechanical concerns.
  • Ability to work independently and coordinate effectively with fleet and operations teams.
  • Basic computer and mobile-device skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with fleet-management software or transportation management systems.
  • Experience with GPS tracking and vehicle telematics systems.
  • Experience coordinating preventive maintenance and vehicle repairs.
  • CDL Class A or Class B, where applicable.
  • Defensive driving certification or professional driver training.
  • Basic knowledge of vehicle diagnostics and mechanical systems.
  • Experience with fuel-management systems.
  • Experience maintaining fleet records and compliance documentation.
  • Experience with vehicle inspection, registration, and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience supporting fleet audits and asset-management activities.
