Job summary

DSV – Global Transport and Logistics in Richardson, TX is seeking an AM Yard Driver to move trailers and equipment within the yard and support dock operations. This full-time role offers daily home time and overtime potential.

Responsibilities include pre/post trip inspections, securing trailers, coordinating with dispatch, maintaining yard records with YMS, and complying with safety policies. A Class A license is required and yard certification is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Class A license required.
• Experience with yard tractors/terminal tractors preferred.

Responsibilities

• Move trailers, containers, and equipment within the yard.

• Coordinate with dispatch and operations to prioritize moves.
• Maintain yard location tracking using YMS and logs.
• Verify trailer numbers, seals, and load documents.
• Assist in yard organization and staging.
• Report safety hazards and equipment issues.
• Maintain cleanliness and readiness of yard equipment.

• Support shipping/receiving during peak periods.

Responsibilities

• Move trailers, containers, and equipment to and from loading docks, staging areas, and parking locations within the yard.
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of yard tractors, trailers, and equipment and report defects or damage.
• Ensure trailers are properly secured, chocked, sealed, and docked according to safety procedures.
• Coordinate with dispatch, warehouse staff, and operations personnel to prioritize trailer moves and dock assignments.
• Maintain accurate yard location tracking using yard management systems (YMS), tablets, handheld devices, or written logs.
• Verify trailer numbers, seals, and load documentation prior to movement.
• Assist in yard organization, including staging empty and loaded trailers in designated areas.
• Monitor yard conditions and immediately report safety hazards, equipment issues, or security concerns.
• Maintain cleanliness and operational readiness of assigned yard tractor and equipment.
• Comply with company policies, OSHA safety standards, and site-specific safety procedures.
• Support shipping and receiving operations during peak periods as directed.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support operational needs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
• Previous yard driver, hostler, shuttler, warehouse, or transportation experience strongly preferred.
• Experience operating a yard tractor, terminal tractor, or similar equipment preferred.
• Ability to obtain and maintain company yard certification and safety training.
• Class – A license required.
• Basic understanding of trailer types, coupling/uncoupling procedures, and dock operations preferred.
• Ability to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays as operational needs require.

Physical Demands

This position requires frequent sitting while operating a yard tractor and frequent entering and exiting the vehicle throughout the shift. The employee must be able to climb in and out of equipment, couple and uncouple trailers, and perform inspections that involve bending, kneeling, squatting, reaching, and walking on uneven surfaces. The role requires the ability to lift and move items up to approximately 50 pounds occasionally and to work in tight spaces around docks and trailers.

Work Environment

The Yard Driver primarily works outdoors in a busy transportation yard or terminal environment and is regularly exposed to moving vehicles, heavy equipment, varying weather conditions, noise, dust, and diesel fumes. The position requires working around loading docks, trailers, and warehouse operations and may involve day, evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday shifts based on business needs.
