Job summary

About The Job

The Driver provides safe, dependable, and respectful transportation for older adults and individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities, behavioral health needs, or other support needs. This position helps clients reach medical appointments, programs, community activities, errands, and other approved destinations while protecting each person's dignity, comfort, privacy, and safety. The ideal candidate is patient, caring, observant, and consistently reliable.

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with flexibility for evenings and weekends as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Transport clients safely and on time to approved appointments, programs, activities, errands, and community destinations.
• Treat every client with patience, compassion, dignity, and respect, including individuals who may need additional time, reassurance, redirection, or communication support.
• Follow assigned routes, schedules, written instructions, carerelated transportation guidance, and all company policies.
• Confirm passenger identity, destination, appointment details, pickup instructions, and authorized dropoff arrangements before each trip.
• Assist clients with safe entry into and exit from the vehicle within the employee's training and the client's approved level of support.
• Properly secure seat belts, mobility aids, personal belongings, and other approved equipment before the vehicle moves.
• Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and protect confidential client and company information.
• Observe clients during transportation and promptly report changes in behavior, health, mood, mobility, or safety concerns to the designated supervisor.
• Respond calmly and follow established procedures during delays, emergencies, behavioral incidents, vehicle problems, or unexpected schedule changes.
• Complete trip logs, mileage records, vehicle checklists, incident documentation, and weekly reports accurately and on time.
• Communicate schedule updates, delays, missed appointments, client concerns, and vehicle issues promptly through approved company channels.
• Use Microsoft Outlook for email and scheduling, Microsoft Word for reports and documentation, and Microsoft Excel for logs or tracking sheets.
• Maintain the assigned vehicle in a clean, sanitary, orderly, and smokefree condition and ensure that client information is never left unsecured.
• Perform and document pretrip and posttrip safety checks, including fuel level, tires, lights, mirrors, cleanliness, warning indicators, and visible damage.
• Immediately report accidents, citations, mechanical concerns, vehicle damage, or any condition that could affect safe transportation.
• Participate in required training, staff meetings, safety reviews, and performance or compliance activities.
• Provide flexible evening or weekend transportation for planned activities when scheduled, with reasonable notice whenever possible.
• Perform other transportationrelated duties within the scope of the position as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

• Valid driver's license and a clean, safe driving record that meets company and insurance requirements.
• Reliable attendance, punctuality, and the ability to report for scheduled shifts consistently.
• Demonstrated patience, good judgment, and sensitivity when supporting older adults and individuals with disabilities or behavioral health needs.
• Ability to follow verbal and written directions accurately and ask questions when instructions are unclear.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain complete, timely, and accurate records.
• Basic proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel, including email, calendar use, document preparation, and spreadsheet data entry.
• Professional verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to remain calm, respectful, and safetyfocused in stressful or changing situations.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with company privacy and safety standards.
• Ability to pass required background, motor vehicle record, health, or other employment screenings, as permitted by applicable law.
• Must comply with Crandell's Enterprises' drugfree workplace requirements, including random drug testing, as permitted by applicable law.
• Ability to work the regular 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. schedule and provide occasional evening or weekend coverage for client activities.

Preferred

• Previous experience transporting or supporting older adults, individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities, or individuals receiving behavioral health services.
• Current CPR and First Aid certification or the ability to obtain required certifications within the company's designated timeframe.
• Experience completing transportation logs, incident reports, mileage records, or weekly operational reports.
• Familiarity with defensive driving, passenger assistance, and safe transportation practices.

Physical and Work Requirements

• Ability to sit and drive for extended periods and safely enter and exit a vehicle throughout the workday.
• Ability to assist ambulatory passengers and handle mobility aids or personal items within training, company policy, and applicable lifting requirements.
• Ability to work in changing weather, traffic, and community environments while maintaining safe driving practices.
• Reasonable accommodations may be provided to enable qualified individuals to perform the essential functions of the position.
