The Role

The Driver Supervisor oversees a specific group of drivers, monitoring performance and dispatch. This role involves managing the daily functions of the driver workforce, ensuring pool compliance, fostering effective employee and labor relations, driver retention, and safety performance.

Responsibilities
  1. Interact daily with the driver workforce.
  2. Interview, select, train, and manage drivers. Ensure all personnel are trained or retrained according to operational procedures. Follow up regularly on driver performance.
  3. Review manpower needs and ensure proper coverage, including managing driver dispatch for routes. Ensure drivers report on time, in uniform, and ready to work.
  4. Provide ongoing feedback to drivers on strengths and areas for improvement using DriveCam reports and customer feedback. Investigate and act on feedback regarding drivers and safety practices.
  5. Plan future book-offs and run change assignments.
  6. Ensure compliance with safety standards and adherence to DOT and FMCSA regulations.
  7. Maintain company standards for drivers in appearance, training, education, safety, and regulatory compliance.
  8. Ensure drivers are properly credentialed to operate commercial vehicles.
  9. Collaborate with HR on personnel matters, maintain good labor relations, and follow the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) for grievance processes.
  10. Review electronic and paper DOT logs.
  11. Monitor on-time performance in real-time.
  12. Manage employee performance, applying appropriate discipline or termination as needed.
Qualifications
  1. Bachelor’s degree preferred; High School diploma or GED required.
  2. At least 1 year of operations experience.
  3. Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  4. Ability to analyze data, generate reports, and make data-driven decisions.
  5. Diplomacy, judgment, and discretion in working with company and union officials.
  6. Experience with safety, workers' compensation, labor relations, and CBA is preferred.
  7. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, and general Windows applications.
