Driver Safety Specialist
Full-time: 8am – 5pm; some on call and off shift hours.
York, PA, Georgia, North Carolina, or South Carolina
The Driver Safety Specialist is responsible for identifying unsafe habits and behaviors and coordinating solutions through driver training and remedial training to lesson or eliminate future non-compliance or unsafe actions. The DSS will assist to ensure organizational compliance with all DOT regulations and company policies.
How You’ll Help
- Ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations regarding transportation and workplace safety (FMCSR,OSHA)
- Accompany drivers for the purpose of observing and evaluating the driving behaviors and skills for compliance to DOT and D&R requirements such as log book, speed, inspections etc.
- Meet targets as to company safety policies, driver attendance to safety meetings and accident costs
- Assist with the creation of safety training material to facilitate education of safety regulations and company policies
- Assist with the implementation of Lytx Cameras, monitor alerts and coach drivers to aid in the reduction or preventable crashes
- Effectively maintain professional attitude and be a source of solutions or guidance for all safety issues
- Be able to communicate to individual / groups in a classroom setting and set up / use education tools as required, i.e. Laptop, LCD projector, creates handouts, maintain decorum, gain feedback and track progress.
- Performs accident/incident investigations, follow-up and closure of action items for all vehicle accidents/incidents
- Ensure in-depth investigation is completed on specific accidents (off-road, jackknife, rear-end, collision at intersection, collision with pedestrian)
- Coordinate and assist with audits and inspections of the company assets and vendor practices to monitor compliance with all FMCSR requirements.
- Works closely through collaboration with all safety and compliance team members
- Other related duties as may be required
Your Skills & Experience
- Minimum of secondary education, with preference of post-secondary education
- A suitable combination of education and experience may be considered
- Class A CDL Preferred
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a safety & compliance role within the transportation industry
- Experience with DOT(FMCSA), OSHA and EPA
- Working knowledge of federal and state safety laws, particularly FMCSR & OSHA standards
- Experience in assessing safety needs and assisting with program solutions
- Experience in developing training materials
- Strong computer skills in Microsoft Suites (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point etc.)
- Analysis and identification of risk trends, problems and solutions
- Dependable, reliable and self-motivated with a proven ability to multi-task
- Superiorinterpersonal & communication skills; direct, clear and professional presentation of information
- Ability to prioritize, set goals, and accomplish responsibilities with limited supervision
- Ability to coach, and mentor drivers
- Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely using appropriate mediums (for example, face-to-face, e-mail, and presentations), listen effectively and demonstrate understanding
- Ability to interact cooperatively and collaboratively with others as a team, including those holding divergent and/or opposing views and goals
- Knowledge of Transportation of Hazardous Material Regulations
- Analytical and problem solving skills.
- Effective written and communications skills.
- Attention to detail and high level of accuracy
- Up to 50 percent travel may be required within North America.
