Job summary

John Knox Village is seeking a PRN Transportation Driver to operate a bus or sedan for residents, under the Public Safety Supervisor and Dispatcher supervision. You will help ensure safe, comfortable travel and complete required training and policy compliance.

Responsibilities include driving to scheduled routes, assisting passengers, maintaining vehicle cleanliness, and handling routine safety procedures, with a focus on customer service and professional conduct daily.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Valid driver's license with passenger endorsement, or ability to obtain one.
• Must pass DOT physical and drug screen; maintain a DOT medical card.

Responsibilities

• Drive bus or sedan to transport residents on scheduled routes, prioritizing passenger safety.
• Assist passengers getting in/out and with baggage as needed.
• Regulate vehicle climate for passenger comfort and ensure cleanliness.
• Follow traffic laws, report delays/accidents, and maintain safety standards.
• Protect passenger belongings and ensure proper handling of luggage and wheelchair.
• Maintain professional conduct and strong customer service throughout shifts.

JOB SUMMARY

Operates a bus or sedan in providing transportation to John Knox Village residents, under the immediate supervision of the Public Safety Supervisor and/or the Dispatcher who acts as communications link for the Director of Public Safety. Supportive of the Village’s mission, values, and service/hospitality (PRIDE) expectations. Completes training as required by policy.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Drives bus to transport passengers over specified routes to local or distant points according to time schedule. Keeps passenger safety a top priority at all times.
• Assists passengers with getting into or out of vehicle and assists with baggage.
• Regulates heating, lighting and ventilating systems for passenger comfort.
• Complies with local traffic regulation and safety precautions for passengers.
• Reports delays, accidents and traffic violations.
• Inspect bus and maintain proper levels of gas, oil and water before departure.
• May load or unload baggage or express checked by passengers in baggage compartment.
• Transports and secures passengers luggage, groceries and wheelchair.
• Spends a majority of the day driving a sedan or a bus.
• Keeps vehicle clean inside and out.
• Must have excellent customer service and listening skills.
• Adheres to all safety regulations and requirements.
• Handles stress well and gets along with others within the workplace and with customers outside the department.
• Maintains acceptable standards of workplace conduct.

The responsibilities described above represent the primary responsibilities of the job. Other responsibilities may be assigned by the supervisor as warranted by business needs. The incumbent is expected to perform all assigned responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Education

• This position requires the level of education typically acquired by a course of study leading to a high school diploma or GED.

Licenses/Certifications

• Must have a valid MO Class E (or higher) driver’s license at time of hire.
• Must be able to obtain a Class C or higher license with passenger endorsement within 90 days of hire.
• Must be able to pass a Department of Transportation physical and drug screen and maintain a D.O.T. medical card.

Knowledge And Skills (required Unless Otherwise Noted)

• Prior commercial driving experience preferred.
• Beginner level Microsoft Office software knowledge (Windows, Word, Excel and Outlook) required.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, handbooks and procedure manuals.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
• Handles stress well, gets along with others and maintains acceptable standards of conduct.
• Adheres to all safety regulations and requirements.
• The associate may be required to interact with individuals with challenged mental capacities.

SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS

• The associate is subject to both environmental conditions: Activities occur inside and outside.
• All associates may be called upon to assist other departments in a declared emergency situation.
