Job description

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for providing safe, courteous transportation service and serve as support staff for the Life Enrichment Director or Maintenance Director. Coordinates with the Maintenance Director vehicle pre‑maintenance, maintenance, and repair to ensure vehicle longevity.

Drives vehicle from community to social and other various destinations according to assigned schedule.

Reports to: Activity/Life Enrichment Director.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
  • Assists residents into and out of vehicle in a safe manner.
  • Able to safely and correctly operate and use lift devices that are required for transport.
  • Secures passengers' wheelchairs to restraining devices to stabilize wheelchairs during trip.
  • Practices safe driving techniques at all times.
  • Reports incidents immediately.
  • Cleans and services vehicle with fuel, lubricants, and accessories and reports & coordinates vehicle maintenance repairs.
  • Establishes and monitors daily and weekly trip inspection & preventative maintenance programs and maintains records regarding the maintenance of all vehicles.
  • Delivers groceries and other belongings to resident’s apartments.
  • Assists the Life Enrichment Department in activities and programs as needed.
  • Ensures charges are submitted to the business office daily for community travel expenses.
  • Maintain a safe driving record according to company guidelines.
  • Handles emergency situations and basic First Aid.
  • Reports potentially unsafe conditions to the General Manager.
  • May perform other duties as needed and/or assigned.
  • Maintain a safe and secure environment for staff, residents and guests, following established safety standards. Responsible for coordinating special provisions for the safety of residents with special needs, i.e., visual deficits, hearing loss.
  • Perform fire and safety procedures when needed to assure resident/staff safety and coordinate with maintenance/environmental services for life safety procedures.
  • Maintain inventory of needed supplies for vehicle.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Education: High school or equivalent.
  • Experience: Prefer two (2) years’ experience providing residential care to the elderly or similar experience with specialized dementia care programs.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform calculations in support of personnel actions, budget, and other financial responsibilities.
  • Reasoning Skills: Understand and conceptualize concepts as well as demonstrate ability to make decisions in stressful situations.
  • Oral/Written Communication Skills: Be able to explain ideas and to communicate complex ideas to a wide audience (employees, residents, family members, governmental agencies, public, etc.), both in writing and verbally.
  • Equipment Used: Be proficient in basic office equipment (including a personal computer and handheld devices) for the purpose of accomplishing and maintaining a high level of job performance.
  • Physical Effort: Must be mobile and able to perform physical requirements of the job. Good physical health verified by a health screening, including a chest x‑ray or an intradermal Mantoux test not more than 6 months prior or seven (7) days after employment as required.
  • Personal Characteristics: Ability to show sincere compassion towards cognitively impaired older adults. Demonstrates genuine concern for the physical and emotional needs of older people and their families.
  • Working Conditions: Well‑lighted office with appropriate ventilation and temperature levels.
Additional Essential Functions

  • Able to clearly present information through the spoken word. Can accurately communicate, providing the necessary level of detail even under stressful or demanding conditions. Ensures a positive attitude and team orientation is exhibited in verbal and non‑verbal communication.
  • Supports a dignified and caring atmosphere with residents, residents’ families, visitors and Team Members.
  • Protects privacy and confidentiality of information pertaining to the resident, Team Member, residence, company information and records.
  • Participates in training, in services, and attends meetings as required.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one (1) to three (3) months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid state Driver’s License. Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) may be required depending on vehicle size/regulations.
  • Five (5) years proven safe and accident‑free driving record and knowledge of vehicle preventative maintenance programs are required.
  • Able to operate a seven (7) to twelve (12) passenger bus, unless otherwise required by state law. Able to operate a limousine or car, tire changing equipment, First Aid Kit, wheelchair lift, and dollies/hand trucks.
  • Experienced with vehicle emergency repairs, able to change automobile tires and handle minor on‑road maintenance.
  • Knowledgeable of all streets within a 10‑mile radius of the community.
  • Position requires driving responsibilities (may use Company provided vehicle and/or personal vehicle).
  • Must satisfactorily meet and be in compliance with Community motor vehicle policy standards.
  • Must possess high‑energy/enthusiasm, be a self‑starter, have excellent time management and customer service skills, a strong initiative, and superior verbal/public speaking skills.
