Job summary

Gerdau in Charlottesville, VA is seeking a Driver - MR to operate diesel trucks and transport steel products in a safety-focused environment. This full-time role involves complying with DOT regulations, loading and unloading, and maintaining accurate logs.

You’ll need a Class A CDL, 9 months’ experience, and comfort using smartphone GPS tools; training and benefits are provided, including medical, vision, and retirement plans.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required or preferred.
• Valid Class A CDL (Tanker and HazMat endorsements are a plus).
• Minimum of 9 months experience operating large mobile equipment or hauling vehicles.
• Comfort using smartphone/GPS technology.
• Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office; SAP experience is an asset).
• Knowledge of traffic regulations and load restrictions.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Flexibility to work in various weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate diesel straight trucks and tractor/trailers (roll-off, dump, and van trailers).
• Pick up and deliver steel products and materials to suppliers and customers.
• Follow DOT regulations and established procedures.
• Read and work from invoices, shipping tickets, and electronic instructions.
• Maintain driver logs, trip reports, and inspection reports.
• Assist with loading/unloading, secure loads properly, and ensure safe transport.
• Maintain professional relationships with customers and vendors.
• Perform routine vehicle cleaning and basic upkeep.
