Job summary

Mission Critical Group (MCG) is seeking a Driver/Material Handler for its Metal Shop in Montgomery County, PA. You will move materials, load/unload trucks, and operate forklifts and pallet jacks to keep production flowing safely and on schedule.

The role requires a high school diploma, a valid Class B driver’s license, 3+ years’ experience with box trucks, and OSHA forklift certification is desirable. You will work with production, warehouse, and logistics teams while adhering to DOT regulations

Job Description

The Driver/Material Handler is a vital member of the Metal Shop team, responsible for the safe and efficient movement of materials, components, and finished goods both within Mission Critical Group's manufacturing facility and between external company locations and vendors. This role supports the seamless flow of production operations by ensuring materials are accurately transported, organized, and delivered in a timely manner. The Driver/Material Handler is responsible for operating forklifts, pallet jacks, and company vehicles including box trucks, while adhering to all DOT regulations, OSHA requirements, and company safety protocols at all times. This position requires a reliable and safety-conscious individual who can manage both internal material handling and external transportation responsibilities with accuracy, professionalism, and attention to detail. The ideal candidate communicates effectively with production, warehouse, and logistics teams to prevent delays and maintain an organized, hazard-free work environment. Consistent and accurate representation of the Mission Critical Group brand, mission, vision, values, and organizational strategy are essential to the success of this role and the organization.

Responsibilities
  • Internal Material Handling:
  • Operate forklifts and other material handling equipment (e.g., pallet jacks, reach trucks) to move, stack, load, and unload materials, components, and finished goods within the manufacturing plant and warehouse.
  • Load and unload trucks and containers efficiently and safely.
  • Transport materials to and from production lines, storage areas, and shipping/receiving docks.
  • Ensure accurate placement and organization of products in storage locations.
  • Perform routine inventory counts and update records as necessary.
External Transportation
  • Operate company vehicles, primarily (but not limited to) box trucks, to transport materials between company facilities and vendors.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles, documenting and reporting any mechanical or safety issues.
  • Adhere to all traffic laws, DOT regulations and company safety protocols.
  • Maintain accurate delivery records, including time logs, mileage reports, and bills of lading.
  • Assist with loading and unloading goods at delivery points, ensuring proper handling to prevent damage.
  • Communicate effectively with logistics support, and internal teams regarding delivery schedules and any potential delays.
Safety & Maintenance
  • Adhere strictly to all safety regulations, company policies, and OSHA requirements at all times.
  • Ensure loads are secured properly before transportation.
  • Maintain a clean and hazard-free work environment, including vehicles and material handling equipment.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions, safety hazards, or incidents to the supervisor immediately.
  • Perform minor routine maintenance tasks on vehicles and equipment (e.g., checking fluid levels, tire pressure).
General Duties
  • Collaborate with production, warehouse, and shipping teams to ensure smooth workflow.
  • Complete and maintain accurate logs and records of material movements and deliveries.
  • Assist with general warehouse duties as needed.
Qualifications
Required Knowledge/Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record. Class B required.
  • Valid Forklift Operator Certification (OSHA compliant) desirable
  • 3+ years of experience operating box trucks, preferably in a manufacturing or warehouse environment.
Required Skill/Abilities
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and perform physical tasks requiring bending, stooping, lifting, and standing for extended periods.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance is a plus.
  • Familiarity with inventory tracking systems is a plus.

  • Attendance & Punctuality: Maintain 97% attendance rate with minimal tardiness.
  • Teamwork & Communication: Receive positive feedback from team leaders or operators on responsiveness and attitude.

  • Safety Compliance: Zero safety violations or incidents; full adherence to PPE and safety protocol.
