POSITION SUMMARY:

The Driver Manager/Load Coordinator role is a critical position that serves as the main communication point between our customers, drivers, dispatch team and administration to ensure our fleet operates safely and efficiently.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES (Including, but not limited to):

  1. Receive requests, solicit and book loads from load boards and other sources, transmit messages, dispatch freight, and track vehicles.
  2. Arrange inbound, outbound, and direct to customer freight and prioritize loads according to urgency, importance, and route. Find and secure backhaul loads.
  3. Act as a liaison between drivers, dispatch, and customers to keep all parties involved informed of issues that may impact the customer’s expectations and/or driver needs.
  4. Monitor the route and status of drivers and vehicles to coordinate and prioritize their schedule to ensure optimal efficiency.
  5. Provide drivers and operations staff with accurate and timely information including expectations of loads, equipment needs, directions, phone numbers, routing solutions, obstacles, or any other pertinent information needed. Act as driver’s main point of contact if they encounter problems or have questions while on the road.
  6. Develop and cultivate customer accounts and maintain open, accurate, and timely two-way communications to guarantee superior customer service.
  7. Foster positive relationships with drivers to ascertain high standards of safety, service, and concern for their well-being is carefully managed to increase driver satisfaction and retention.
  8. Collect and process paperwork for loads and deliveries (bills of lading, broker sheets, rate confirmations, manifests, and other trip documents).
  9. Communicate with maintenance department to coordinate repairs and equipment downtime.
  10. Work closely with the Director of Safety to provide effective management for optimum performance in the following categories:
  • On-time pickup and delivery performance
  • Out of Route Miles
  • Hours of Service Compliance
  • Driver Availability
  • Accommodation of special routing needs
  • Cost Control and profitability
  • Continually encourage and promote safety of the drivers, the public, and freight

Adhere to all company and DOT policies and procedures.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. Experience in transportation dispatching (not necessary, but helpful)
  2. Aptitude for utilizing multiple freight software consecutively
  3. Familiarity with trucking related programs and software
  4. Proficient in operating multi-line telephones
  5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of the job, the employee is required to sit for prolonged periods of time. Manual dexterity is required for data entry. The employee will need to bend, see, speak, hear, touch, read, write, reach, and grasp. Light lifting (under 25 lbs) may be required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The majority of the employee’s work is performed in an office environment. The employee will have daily interactions with operations personnel, drivers, mechanics, shippers, consignees, brokers, customers, and other business associates. The employee must maintain a work area that is clean and orderly. The noise level in the work environment is moderate. The employee must exhibit safe work practices. The employee is expected to adhere to all company policies and procedures as outlined in the Laufer Employee Handbook.

WORKPLACE ATTIRE:

Employee must wear appropriate business casual attire.

ATTENDANCE:

Work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. Schedule may vary slightly on occasion for vacation or other business coverage needs. After hour or on-call work Monday through Friday is needed in case urgent or emergency issues arise while drivers are over the road.
