United Road in Lafayette, IN is seeking a Driver Manager to lead a driver fleet and drive performance, safety, and retention. Reporting to a Fleet Manager, you will supervise daily execution, coordinate with HR and Safety, and ensure payroll accuracy while optimizing utilization.

The role emphasizes leadership, problem solving, and strong communication as you mentor drivers and maintain high service standards in a busy logistics operation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
• Minimum two years of progressively responsible related work experience.
• Experience in trucking is a plus.
• Strong time management and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage driver performance, set expectations, conduct reviews, and implement corrective actions.
• Ensure safety and regulatory compliance per FMCSA regulations.
• Coordinate with Fleet Manager, HR, and Safety on issues affecting drivers.
• Plan and monitor driver schedules, payroll, and utilization.
• Maintain driver retention and resolve payroll discrepancies.

The position would be responsible for the management of a group of drivers and/or ICs. The driver manager is a key leadership position that oversees the day-to-day execution of his/her assigned driver fleet. The driver manager is accountable for the performance of their drivers in the areas of service, safety, quality, productivity, and retention. The driver manager will focus on maintaining positive employee relationships. The driver manager is responsible for conducting regular performance reviews with their drivers and determining corrective action plans when performance is below expectations.Job DutiesManages driver performance by setting expectations, conducting regular reviews and implementing corrective action processes. The Driver Manager will work with the Fleet Manager, HR, and/or the Safety department on any issues that may result in termination or lease cancellation, in the case of ICs.Accountable for the safety and regulatory performance of their drivers and implementation and execution of corrective actions plans for all drivers below goal. Work alongside the Safety Coordinators to ensure their drivers are compliant in all FMCSA regulations such as: hours of service, random drug testing, proper licensing and endorsementsResponsible for problem resolution with assigned driversAccountable for driver retentionTrains and Mentors drivers to ensure success in areas such as proper use of tools and systems, including, for example, Pedigree, Magnus Driver AppTracks and manages assigned drivers' schedules, including planned time off, holiday pay compliance, and vacationsResolves driver payroll discrepancies, including authorizing additional accessorial and hourly pay when appropriateManages driver utilization to ensure their drivers achieve targeted utilization levels; works with load planners to improve driver productivityResponsible for driver execution of assigned workEnforces understanding and compliance with all Company policies and procedures, including the United Road Core ValuesContributes to an atmosphere of trust and teamwork that values contributions of all employees in support of a high performance cultureSupports load planning in the areas of re-planning and recovery of loadsWorks until driver issues are resolved for the day and/or a proper hand off has been madeMonitors deliveries and pickups for service failures and proactively alerts load planning and/or customer service of any loads in jeopardy of failureJob RequirementsBachelor’s degree in a work-related discipline/field from an accredited college or appropriate work experience is preferred.A minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience.Must exhibit a passion for workforce development.Experience working in the trucking sector is a plus.Demonstrated ability to effectively manage time, interpersonal relationships, resources, and information.Excellent reading comprehension, oral and written communication skills required.Ability to maintain confidential information.Attention to detail.Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently with minimal supervision.Develop and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers.Strong skills with Excel, & MS Office Suite required.Location: On-site (this is not a hybrid role) Lafayette, IN (NW Indianapolis area)Benefits SummaryUnited Road is proud to offer our full-time employees best-in-class benefits designed to support your health, well-being, and financial security.
