Responsibilities

Job Summary

The Driver Lead role is responsible for assisting management with the oversight of drivers and routes to ensure proper coverage. This role is also responsible for supporting local management and corporate departments to ensure compliance with DOT FMCSA regulations and RJ Schinner expectations. This may be expected to driver 50% or more depending on the need of the location and management.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Maintain Class A CDL license, driver qualification documentation and acceptable driving record in order to drive for the company on an as-needed basis.
• Acts as Liaison between driver and transportation coordinator on an as-needed basis
• Assist with approval and coordination of vacations and route coverage
• Participate in driver interviews and assist Management with hiring drivers and back-up drivers
• Partner with management and transportation to ensure route coverage including but not limited to temporary drivers, carriers, and/or directly covering for the vacancy
• Administer the planned and unplanned maintenance of all driving equipment for designated branch.
• Perform monthly pre-trip inspection audits to ensure all equipment meets FMCSA and RJ Schinner standards
• Partner with Safety to coordinate driver onboarding and Driver Qualification documents, on an as needed basis
• Conduct driver training and road tests on new employees or designated remedial training program.
• Assist Management and/or the HR-Safety department on coaching or corrective action
• Maintain working knowledge of systems such as GEOTAB, Samsara, Descartes, JJ Keller Encompass, and hardware components to diagnose and resolve driver questions and issues
• Support Management with the correction of driver Hours of Service (HOS) issues in GEOTAB
• Assist with the collection and completion of accident and injury paperwork and processes
• Perform driver ride-along as directed by management
• Other duties as assigned

What We’re Looking For In A Driver

• You have a valid Class A CDL Operator’s License
• You bring at least 3 years of driving experience
• You can meet DOT requirements, including pre-employment and random drug testing
• You have a clean driving record and can pass a background check
• You have a current valid Federal Medical Card
• You understand the common hazards on the road and follow best safety practices
• You have previous experience making deliveries
• You’re a natural problem solver
• You take pride in providing excellent customer experiences

Physical Demands

The employee is frequently required to sit, talk and/or hear; frequently required to stand, and/or walk. Employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds while moving inventory, packages, boxes, pallets and additional warehouse equipment. Vision abilities are required for this job which may include close vision, sound, ability to adjust focus, manual dexterity for equipment usage.
