Job summary

The Township of Cranford is accepting applications for a full-time Public Works Driver/Laborer responsible for maintenance of buildings, parks, roads and sewers. Duties include chipping, landscaping, leaf/brush collection, shoveling, plowing, storm sewer maintenance, road work, paving, and grounds maintenance.

Must lift 90lbs and have a high school diploma; NJ driver’s license required; CDL B preferred. 40 hours/week; union position with paid time off, health insurance, dental, and participation

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance work on public buildings, parks, roads and sewers.
• Chipping, landscaping, leaf/brush collection, shoveling and plowing.
• Assist with storm sewer maintenance, paving and grounds maintenance.
• Work in adverse weather and on emergency calls as needed.

Job description

The Township is accepting applications for a full-time Public Works Driver/Laborer.

Under immediate or general supervision, performs various types of manual, skilled, and semi-skilled tasks involved in the maintenance of public buildings, parks, grounds, roads and sewers. Duties include but are not limited to chipping, landscaping, leaf/brush collection, shoveling, plowing, storm sewer maintenance, road work, paving, building & grounds maintenance, cleaning, and other duties related to public works projects as assigned and as needed. Must be able to lift 90lbs. High School diploma or equivalent required. Candidate must be customer service oriented and possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, officials, and the general public. Must possess the ability to follow directions and complete assigned tasks within established deadlines. Valid New Jersey Driver’s License in good standing is required. Candidates in possession of CDL B in good standing, or the ability to obtain within 6 months, preferred. The ability to operate trucks with manual transmissions a plus. Will be required to work in adverse weather conditions and on an emergency basis when needed. 40-hours per week; Union position with a starting salary of $22.22/hour and benefits include paid time off, health insurance, dental, and participation in the state pension plan. Successful applicant must undergo background check and drug test prior to appointment.
