Job summary

Whitson's in East Meadow, NY is seeking a School Food Delivery Driver to support meals across district schools. This full-time role runs Monday–Friday with no nights or weekends and offers a family-friendly schedule.

You will safely drive, load and unload foods, perform daily vehicle inspections, keep logs, and communicate with the central office to ensure timely deliveries. A valid driver's license, ability to lift 40 lbs, and passing a DOT physical are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; complete required training as required by Whitsons and governing bodies.
• Minimum 1 year of professional driving experience; food service or delivery driving experience preferred.
• Clean, valid driver’s license and passing a DOT physical are required.
• Ability to read/write English to understand route instructions and complete logs/reports.
• Must adhere to motor vehicle laws and maintain professional appearance; follow Whitsons policies.

Responsibilities

• Deliver food and supplies between schools using a company vehicle.
• Load and unload products with proper storage and delivery.
• Perform daily vehicle inspections and keep logs/reports accurate.
• Keep the delivery vehicle clean and fueled; refuel weekly.

Requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent required; must complete all Whitsons and government-mandated training as required .

Experience

• Minimum 1 year of professional driving experience required; food service or delivery driving experience preferred.

Certifications

• Clean, valid, and unblemished driver’s license required at all times;
• ServSafe certification preferred .

Other Qualifications

• Ability to speak, read, and write in English sufficient to understand route instructions, complete required logs and reports, and communicate with school and office staff.
• Must adhere to all motor vehicle laws and regulations at all times ; always presents a professional image and follows all Whitsons policies and procedures.

Core Competencies

• Safety & Compliance: Operates the company vehicle safely and in full compliance with all motor vehicle laws, school district delivery policies, and Whitsons fleet protocols at all times .
• Reliability & Punctuality: Completes all assigned deliveries accurately and on schedule; maintains consistent attendance, follows assigned routes, and meets all reporting and documentation requirements every shift.
• Attention to Detail: Ensures product is correctly loaded, transported, and delivered; completes vehicle logs, odometer records, and delivery receipts with accuracy.
• Professionalism: Represents Whitsons positively at all school locations; follows all district-specific delivery protocols and maintains a clean, well-kept vehicle and professional appearance at all times.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND OTHER DETAILS

Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time non-exempt position. Hours are aligned with the school district’s food service delivery schedule. Occasional extended hours or weekend work may be required .

Physical Demands of the Job

The Team Member is required to sit while driving and stand and walk when loading, unloading, and at delivery sites. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds frequently , including while turning side to side. Exposure to extreme temperatures when accessing storerooms and freezers. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

This position operates primarily in and around a company vehicle, with regular presence at school loading docks, storerooms, and freezer areas. Environmental conditions include varying temperatures and moderate to loud noise levels.
