Job summary

FedEx Freight, Inc. in Greenwood, IN seeks a CDL driver to operate tractor-trailer combos, including doubles, and perform pre/post-trip inspections, dock duties, and freight handling.

You will maintain logs, follow dispatch, and comply with DOT and hazmat rules, while providing reliable customer service. Overnight stays may be required on certain schedules.

Qualifications

• Must possess a Class A CDL or CLP prior to entering job classification
• Must possess acceptable MVR
• Must meet DOT regulatory requirements under 391 FMC regulations
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator
• Basic written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to hook up and break down sets of trailers requiring ~100 lb lift
• Ability to sit for extended periods, bend, twist, squat, climb in/out of truck
• Ability to follow instructions and complete training
• Ability to work independently and/or as a team member

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer combination, including doubles and/or straight trucks
• Perform pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections on equipment
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from a tractor and/or trailer
• Maintain accurate daily logs
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports
• Communicate with and follow Dispatch instructions regarding events
• Comply with hazmat regulations and company procedures, confirm placarding matches hazmat shipments
• Demonstrate internal and external customer service
• Where operationally necessary, perform city driver or freight handler duties
• Freight handling using forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks
• Chain vehicle tires as required
• Comply with laws/regulations and company policies
• Perform other duties as required

Starting Rate of Pay: $ 25.64 per hour

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Through education and driving skills development, become proficient in the operation of a tractor trailer combination, picking up and delivering trailers between service centers and/or turn-point locations. Responsibilities may include non-driving duties such as forklift operation and working the dock.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Operate tractor-trailer combination, including doubles and/or straight trucks
• Perform pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections on equipment
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from a tractor and/or trailer
• Maintain accurate daily logs
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports
• Communicate with and follow Dispatch instructions regarding events including, but not limited to, delays, arrivals, equipment problems, etc., as required
• Comply with hazardous material regulations and company procedures, and confirm placarding matches hazmat shipments, as required
• Demonstrate internal and external customer service
• Where operationally necessary, perform job duties of a city driver or freight handler
• Where operationally necessary, perform freight handling using appropriate motorized and manual equipment, including, but not limited to, forklift, pallet jack, and hand truck
• Chain vehicle tires, as required
• Comply with all applicable laws/regulations, as well as company policies/procedures
• Perform other duties as required

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Drive long distances day and night on all types of roads in all types of weather
• Exposure to noise and vibration
• Exposure to dust and diesel fumes
• Exposure to hazardous materials shipped and packaged under DOT regulations
• Hours may vary due to operational need
• Overnight stays may be required for some schedules
