Job summary

FedEx Freight is seeking a hard-working driver to operate straight trucks and handle dock duties across service centers and customer sites. You will perform safety inspections, freight handling with forklifts and pallet jacks, and secure loads for transport.

The role requires a Class B CDL or CLP, adherence to DOT regulations, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team in varying weather conditions. This is a full-time position with comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Must possess Class B CDL or Commercial Learning Permit (CLP) prior to entering job classification.
• Must possess acceptable MVR based on hiring standards.
• Must meet all DOT regulations under 49 CFR Part 391.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Ability to read and understand route schedules.
• Ability to lift/carry up to 100 pounds, several times a week.
• Ability to sit for extended periods and maneuver in/out of truck.
• Ability to work independently and/or as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Operate straight trucks.

• Secure freight inside trailers with pallets, straps, and rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight as needed.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Communicate with Dispatch regarding delays, arrivals, and issues.
• Collect checks for freight charges and maintain related docs.
• Comply with hazmat regulations and placarding as required.
• Follow customer directions for pick-up or delivery needs.
• Seek additional business and provide leads to sales.

Starting Rate of Pay: $27.26 per hour

POSITION OVERVIEW

Through education and driving skills development, become proficient in the operation of a straight truck picking up and delivering freight between service centers and customer locations. Responsibilities include non-driving duties such as forklift operation and working the dock.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Operate straight trucks.
• Perform pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections on equipment
• Perform freight handling work using appropriate motorized and manual equipment, including, but not limited to, forklift, pallet jack, and hand truck
• Secure freight inside trailers using appropriate tools and supplies, including, but not limited to, pallets, straps, and rope
• Recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports
• Collect checks for freight charges and maintain related documentation, as required
• Comply with hazardous material regulations and company procedures, and confirm placarding matches hazmat shipments, as required
• Communicate with and follow Dispatch instructions regarding events including, but not limited to, delays, arrivals, equipment problems, etc., as required
• Demonstrate internal and external customer service
• Communicate with customers to determine pick-up or delivessry needs
• Ask customers for additional business, and provide leads to sales for potential new opportunities
• Chain vehicle tires, as required
• Comply with all applicable laws/regulations, as well as company policies/procedures
• Perform other duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS

• Must possess Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or Commercial Learning Permit (CLP) prior to entering job classification. Automatic transmission CDL restriction allowed.
• Must possess acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) based on hiring standards
• Must meet all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulatory requirements under section 391 of the Federal Motor Carrier (FMC) regulations
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator
• Ability to read and understand route schedules
• Ability to lift/carry hand freight and other items weighing up to 100 pounds, several times a week
• Ability to sit for extended periods of time, bend, twist, squat, climb in and out of truck
• Ability to follow instructions and complete required training
• Ability to work independently and/or as a team member

WORKING CONDITIONS

Must be able to work both indoors and outdoors and drive on all types of roads in all types of weather

PAY

• Hourly: $27.26 - $32.47
