Qualifications

• Must hold a Class A CDL or CLP prior to entering job classification.
• Must have acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) according to hiring standards.
• Must meet DOT regulatory requirements under FMC regulations 391.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to hook up and break down trailers with average lift force of ~100 lbs.
• Ability to sit for extended periods and maneuver in/out of trucks.
• Ability to follow instructions and complete required training.
• Ability to work independently and/or as a team member.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer combinations (including doubles/straight trucks).
• Perform pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections.
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies.
• Maintain accurate daily logs.
• Complete required documentation and reports.
• Communicate with Dispatch and follow instructions during delays or issues.
• Comply with hazmat regulations and placarding as required.
• Demonstrate strong customer service to internal and external stakeholders.
• Occasionally perform city driver or freight handler duties as needed.
• Use motorized/manual equipment for freight handling as required.

Starting rate of pay $26.84/ hour

POSITION OVERVIEW

Through education and driving skills development, become proficient in the operation of a tractor trailer combination, picking up and delivering trailers between service centers and/or turn-point locations. Responsibilities may include non-driving duties such as forklift operation and working the dock.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Operate tractor-trailer combination, including doubles and/or straight trucks
• Perform pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections on equipment
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from a tractor and/or trailer
• Maintain accurate daily logs
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports
• Communicate with and follow Dispatch instructions regarding events including, but not limited to, delays, arrivals, equipment problems, etc., as required
• Comply with hazardous material regulations and company procedures, and confirm placarding matches hazmat shipments, as required
• Demonstrate internal and external customer service
• Where operationally necessary, perform job duties of a city driver or freight handler
• Where operationally necessary, perform freight handling using appropriate motorized and manual equipment, including, but not limited to, forklift, pallet jack, and hand truck
• Chain vehicle tires, as required
• Comply with all applicable laws/regulations, as well as company policies/procedures
• Perform other duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS

• Ability to sit for extended periods of time, bend, twist, squat, climb in and out of truck
• Ability to follow instructions and complete required training
• Ability to work independently and/or as a team member

WORKING CONDITIONS

Drive long distances day and night on all types of roads in all types of weather

Pay:

Hourly: $26.84 - $31.97
