Job summary

Samaritan Daytop Village in Rhinebeck, NY, seeks a Driver to transport staff, patients and supplies safely for appointments and deliveries, supporting our health and human services mission.

Qualified candidates will hold a valid NY driver’s license, have 5+ years driving experience, a clean MVR, basic computer skills, GPS familiarity, and the ability to stay calm in busy conditions with flexible scheduling as needed.

Qualifications

  • Valid New York State Driver's License is required.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • At least five years of driving experience.
  • No statutory or major violations on MVR.
  • Basic computer literacy is expected.
  • Familiarity with GPS devices is preferred.
  • Ability to stay calm in rush hour, construction and heavy traffic.
  • Experience working with diverse backgrounds is valued.
  • Flexible schedule availability is required.

Responsibilities

  • Transports patients, staff and supplies in agency vehicles to sites or appointments.
  • Picks up and delivers supplies from vendors as needed.
  • Transports staff to various sites as required.
  • Researches traffic and weather delays and plans routes accordingly.
  • Follows all traffic laws and vehicle safety procedures.
  • Maintains daily vehicle trip logs.
  • Drives safely and professionally representing the agency.
  • Inspects vehicles before use and ensures maintenance is up to date.
  • Contributes to a professional public image of the agency.
  • Performs other duties as requested.

The Role

Under the general direction of the Program Director, the Driver is responsible for transporting staff, patients, and supplies in a safe and orderly fashion by agency vehicle to appointments, other agency sites, etc. This work is carried out in support of the mission and goals of Samaritan Daytop Village.

Responsibilities

What You Will Do

  • Transports patients in agency vehicles to other program sites, appointments, or within the community, etc.
  • Picks up and delivers supplies from vendors, other sites, etc. as needed.
  • Transports staff to other sites as needed.
  • Research and plan for traffic, construction, and weather delays.
  • Observe all traffic and vehicle operation laws to ensure the safe and legal operation of agency vehicles.
  • Maintains and updates Vehicle Trip Logs daily.
  • Follows agency vehicle emergency procedures in case of an accident.
  • Inspects vehicles before use in order following the agency vehicle checklist to ensure that they are maintained in a safe and efficient operating condition.
  • Demonstrates a professional standard of conduct in representing the agency out in the community.
  • Drives to and from agency sites to pick up items i.e. mail as requested.
  • Reinforces agency policy in using vehicle safety/seat belts.
  • Maintains vehicle by ensuring regular preventive maintenance work is performed.
  • Ensures that the vehicle is cleaned and fueled regularly.
  • Performs other duties as requested.
Qualifications

Who You Will Be

  • Valid New York State Driver’s License.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • At least Five (5) years proven driving experience.
  • No statutory or major violations listed on MVR.
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • Familiarity with GPS devices.
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful driving situations such as rush hour, construction, and heavy traffic delays.
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Available to work a flexible schedule and be to work as needed in response to participant and staff needs.
