Job summary

Broward Children's Center is seeking a reliable bus driver to transport children on morning and afternoon routes in a safe, organized manner. You will ensure child safety in wheelchairs, report repairs, and follow established emergency procedures during daily operations.

The role requires a High School diploma or GED, a Florida CDL with appropriate endorsements, and certifications in First Aid/ CPR, HIV, and HIPAA.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and 1–3 months related experience.
• Valid Florida Driver's License with Passenger and School Bus Endorsement (CDL).
• First Aid and CPR certification.
• HIV and HIPAA training required.
• Annual DOT physical.
• PPD test and LogistiCare certification due within 90 days of hire.
• Defensive Driving course (40 hours) due within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Transports children safely on morning/afternoon routes.
• Secure children in wheelchairs during loading/unloading.
• Keep bus interior clean and debris-free.
• Report interior repairs to supervisor.
• Follow emergency procedures and contact 911 if needed.
• Assist with loading/unloading; do not deliver children to door.
• Maintain communication with Nursing Home Administrator on route changes.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one to three months related experience.

QUALIFICATIONS

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Transports children in a safe and efficient manner.
• Safely secure children in wheelchairs during loading/unloading process.
• Keeps interior of bus neat, clean and free of debris.
• Reports interior repairs (seat belts, car seats, etc.) to North Area Transportation Supervisor.
• Attends to children as needed in emergency situations.
• Follows emergency procedures.
• Uses cellular phone for parental/emergency procedures only.
• Assist with loading and unloading of the children. Does not pick up or deliver children to the door.
• If child becomes ill (seizures, vomits) driver will pull to side of road. If incident requires medical attention call 911 on cellular phone. Once situation is under control notify the Nursing Home Administrator or the Director of Nursing.
• In the event the vehicle becomes disabled call North Area Transportation Supervisor or Nursing Home Administrator on cellular phone for instructions.
• In the event of an accident call 911 and notify the Nursing Home Administrator for instructions.
• Maintains communication with Nursing Home Administrator when a change in route time occurs such as Early Release days.
• Nonscheduled pick-ups and/or deliveries must be approved by Nursing Home Administrator or Director of Nursing.
• Complete log sheet daily and turn into Nursing Home Administrator weekly.
• Other duties as assigned by the Nursing Home Administrator.
