The role focuses on safe, timely transportation, pre/post trip checks, incident documentation, and coordination with center staff to link participants with needed resources. CPR/First Aid certification preferred or to be obtained within 30 days.

Qualifications

  • Must be able to read traffic signs.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license with a clear driving record.
  • Must be physically present at the assigned job site.
  • Able to pass background check.
  • Able to organize and manage time and multiple tasks.
  • Must clear insurance company review.
  • CPR/First Aid certification or obtain it within the first 30 days of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide transportation to locations throughout the community for students, families, and community members.
  • Help establish an environment that is physically and emotionally safe for students.
  • Drive staff on job-related trips as necessary with the supervisor's approval.
  • Maintain transportation documents (mileage, cleaning, maintenance, temperature logs).
  • Communicate incidents and risks promptly to proper personnel.

Job Description

The United Way Neighborhood Zone works alongside partners and residents to strengthen the communities of Baltimore by utilizing a community informed approach. Integral to this strategy are the United Way Family Centers at Excel Academy and at Ben Franklin High School, which provide early childhood education as well as supportive services to Center engaged families. The driver supports this work by providing transportation to students, their children and community members

OBJECTIVES

  • Provide transportation to Baltimore City Public School System (BCPSS) students and their children city-wide who attend school and utilize the United Way Family Centers at Excel Academy and Ben Franklin High School.
  • Optimize client functioning and well-being by providing transportation services, in the most ethical, effective manner in accordance with the need for the family center and community.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Included but not limited to):

40% Implementation of Family Center transportation

  • Provide transportation to locations throughout the community, such as local grocery stores, to assist in linking Family Center participants to needed resources.
  • Help establish an environment that is physically and emotionally safe for students.
  • Drive staff on job-related trips as necessary with the supervisor's approval.
  • Other duties as required by the program.

20% Communication

  • Work as a team member to provide a warm, nurturing environment and model and encourage appropriate social interactions.
  • Communicates incidents and risks in a timely manner to appropriate personnel.
  • Ability to communicate with parents during daily interaction (E.g., drop -off
  • and pick up daily correspondence via text/phone)
  • Ensure that any maintenance to the Family Center bus gets documented and communicated to the Family Center Director.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective communications and working relationships with other employees, participants, and their families.

20% Physical

  • Ability to lift, push, and pull with force exertion up to 50 pounds; reach above the shoulders; bend forward from the waist; bend at the knees; and stand and/or sit for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to implement daily cleaning protocol not limited to fogging, mopping, sweeping, etc.
  • Inspect vehicles before and after every shift, including tires, brakes, lights, gas, and fluid.

20% Processes and Procedures

  • Participates in required Community Schools and United Way training and professional development (i.e., Defensive Driving Course, Relias, CARF requirements, continuing education training).
  • Maintain transportation documents (i.e., mileage, cleaning, maintenance, and temperature logs).
  • Communicates incidents and risks promptly to the proper personnel.
  • Follow all traffic rules and maintain a clean driving record.

INTERACTION (Internal and External):

Internal: Interacts with UWCM central staff on an occasional basis and UWCM Neighborhood Zone staff on a regular basis; provides information as needed; participates in staff committee/team activities; develops cooperative and effective working relationships with Neighborhood Zone staff, including Impact Strategies team members and other UWCM colleagues.

The United Way of Central Maryland operates three family centers in the region. Although you may be assigned to work at a primary physical site, changes to your assigned site will be made based on the needs of the centers. You will be notified 24 hours in advance if you are required to report to a location other than your primary site. In addition, your work hours may be adjusted to fill the needs of the center.

External: Interacts with City Schools Engagement staff on a regular basis. Interacts with volunteers, staff, community partners, collaborators, and other organizations on a regular basis to respond to inquiries.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS (required education, years of experience, skills, and abilities):
