Job summary

Froehling & Robertson, Inc. (F&R) seeks a field investigator to perform subsurface investigations across locations from highways to remote worksites.

Responsibilities include SPTs, hollow-stem augers, mud-rotary drilling, rock cores, and pavement studies under general supervision. You will guide drill crews, log borehole locations with GPS, follow safety rules, manage timesheets and expenses, and travel up to 65% overnight.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • 2+ years of drilling experience.
  • Class A CDL preferred or obtainable after employment.
  • State-issued well driller certification preferred.
  • Ability to travel overnight up to 65%+.
  • Strong math and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to follow safety regulations and DOT screening.
  • Experience with SPT, mud rotary, and rock coring desirable.
  • Ability to drive company vehicle.

Who we are looking for:

This position will be responsible for performing subsurface field investigations in a variety of locations, ranging from interstate highways to remote and difficult to access locations. Responsibilities include SPTs, hollow-stem augers, mud-rotary drilling, rock coring, and pavement investigations under general supervision. May oversee the rig crew.

What you’ll be doing:

Including but not limited to:

  • Performs site recons, chainsaw clearing, hand augers, and SPT drilling
  • Performs subsurface field investigations
  • Oversees and mentors Driller Helpers
  • Uses GPS to log the location of a site’s boreholes and link it to other information about the worksite
  • Follows all safety regulations
  • Performs material inventory as needed/assigned
  • Tracks daily work installed
  • Inputs timesheets and expenses electronically
  • Upholds F&R mission statement and Core Values in all aspects of work
  • Other duties as assigned
What you need to have:
  • High School Degree or GED required
  • Class A CDL preferred or able to obtain after employment
  • State-issued well driller certification preferred
  • 2+ years’ experience providing drilling services
  • Experience with HSA, SPT, mud rotary, and/or rock coring highly desirable
  • Ability to problem solve, accessing roadblocks with poise and control
  • Strong project or task management skills, including scheduling, execution and follow-up
  • Should have basic math skills
  • Good customer relations skills
  • Must be punctual and dependable
  • Must be able to write legibly
  • Must have ability to follow instructions
  • Must be willing to work on a team or independently when need be
  • Must be willing to participate in and pass F&R’s pre-employment screening including a background investigation, drug screening and driving record
  • Must be able to drive company vehicle in accordance with F&R’s Vehicle Fleet Safety Policy.
  • Must submit to and pass DOT screening requirements at hire and for duration of employment
  • Ability to travel overnight (up to 65% or greater)
