Job Description

General Responsibilities:

As a Driller III with Terracon, you will perform subsurface exploration and soil sampling duties using auger drilling, mud rotary drilling, and diamond bit coring techniques. You will lead two-person crews on projects requiring borings to depths of up to 150 feet. Responsibilities include setting piezometers and observation wells, providing input to improve drilling efficiency, and assisting in the maintenance of drilling equipment.

Essential Functions and Duties:

1. Operate all company vehicles and drilling rigs, including combination auger and mud rotary rigs. Complete US Department of Transportation (DOT) paperwork as required.
2. Perform boring layout and establish elevations for projects. Coordinate with utility companies to ensure boring locations are free of underground utilities.
3. Carry out routine drilling tasks as assigned by project engineers, department heads, or office managers, including auger drilling, mud rotary, diamond coring, and air rotary techniques.
4. Load appropriate tools and supplies onto trucks or rigs based on project requirements indicated in job sheets or registers.
5. Complete drilling tasks for borings, piezometers, or observation wells up to approximately 150 feet deep, using suitable drilling methods.
6. Prepare and review field logs, including soil and rock classifications, and document site details such as observation well supplies installed each day.
7. Ensure safety protocols are followed during environmental project drilling, utilizing OSHA Level D, D modified, C, and B safety gear. Maintain safety of crew members during all operations.
8. Perform maintenance on equipment as needed and supervise shop tasks, especially in the absence of the department or office manager.
