G.W. Van Keppel Company in Kansas City, KS seeks a full-time Heavy Equipment Technician to repair and maintain machinery at shop or customer sites. You will diagnose hydraulic and electrical systems, perform pre-startup checks, and ensure safety and quality in every task.

Requirements include a High School diploma or GED, vocational training or 2+ years of heavy machinery experience, and a Class B CDL within 60 days. Willingness to travel up to 50% and work day shifts are expected.

Qualifications

  • Must pass pre-employment DOT physical and drug/alcohol screening.
  • Possessing or obtaining Class B CDL license within first 60 days of employment.
  • Ability to work overtime and weekends as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Performs machine repair and maintenance services both in the shop and at customer sites.
  • Operates and maintains electric and/or air powered hand tools.
  • Participates in testing and commissioning products.
  • Performs pre-startup checks to ensure machines are ready for use.
  • Meets and/or exceeds the Company’s work quality standards using visual and mechanical inspection methods.
  • Operates heavy equipment safely and effectively.
  • Works safely by following established safety procedures and through awareness helps to ensure the safety of others near and around the work area.
  • Changes and disposes of hazardous waste in accordance with health and safety protocols.
  • Troubleshoots equipment and systems using hydraulic and/or electrical schematics.
  • Completes repair tickets accurately and thoroughly, indicating work completed and any needed follow-up.
  • Communicates services and repairs performed to the customer in a professional manner.

Physical Requirements

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Vocational Training or 2+ years of experience performing heavy machinery mechanical services (Volvo, Roadtec, Bornag Etnyre, brands preferred)
  • 2+ years of hydraulic, electrical and heavy construction equipment experience
  • Proficiency using heavy machinery diagnostics equipment
  • Must have own set of tools
  • Must pass pre-employment DOT physical and drug/alcohol screening
  • Possessing or obtaining Class B CDL license within first 60 days of employment
  • Ability to work overtime and weekends as needed
