North Sky Communications, LLC is seeking a Drill Locator to support directional drilling operations by accurately locating and marking underground utilities with flags and paint. You will work with the HDD crew to ensure safe clearances and precise drill paths.

The role involves real-time tracking of drill heads, reading maps and prints, and documenting all locates and logs. A valid driver's license and at least 1 year of HDD experience are required.

Competenze

• 1+ years of HDD support experience.
• Strong knowledge of bore path tracking, pitch/depth readings, and utility conflict mitigation.
• Valid state driver's license with acceptable driving record.

Mansioni

• Track HDD drill heads, bore paths, depth, and pitch in real time using walkover locating systems and detection equipment.
• Read utility maps, bore prints, and job site blueprints to plan drill paths and identify crossings.
• Mark underground utilities with paint and flags before and during drilling.
• Communicate with HDD rig operators, crew, excavators, and utility representatives for safe clearances.
• Assist with potholing verification and light hand-digging to expose utilities safely.
• Document locates, bore path records, and utility verification logs.
• Troubleshoot locates and navigate RF interference during HDD operations.
• Work overtime, travel, and on-call/after-hours as required.
• Perform duties safely across weather conditions and field environments.

What You’ll Do

• Track horizontal directional drill (HDD) drill heads, bore paths, depth, and pitch in real time using specialized walkover locating systems and detection equipment.
• Read and interpret utility maps, engineered bore prints, and job site blueprints to plan accurate drill paths and identify potential utility crossings.
• Mark standard and complex underground utilities with paint and flags prior to and during drilling operations.
• Communicate continuously and effectively with HDD rig operators, crew members, excavators, and utility representatives to ensure safe clearances and head tracking.
• Assist the directional drilling crew with pot-holing/pothole verification and light hand-digging to expose existing utilities safely before drilling.
• Document all locates, bore path records, and utility verification logs accurately.
• Troubleshoot complex or high-profile locates and navigate radio frequency interference (RFI) during horizontal directional drilling operations.
• Work overtime, travel, and handle on-call/after-hours responsibilities as required.
• Perform all duties safely across various weather conditions and field environments.

What You’ll Need

• To be 18 years of age or older
• Authorization to work in the United States for this company
• High School Diploma, GED equivalent, or relevant work experience
• Minimum of 1+ years of experience directly supporting horizontal directional drilling (HDD) operations and walkover locating systems.
• Strong working knowledge of directional bore path tracking, pitch/depth readings, and utility conflict mitigation.
• Valid State driver's license (cannot be Provisional), including an acceptable driving record

Physical abilities & exposures

• Routinely: work alone in remote locations with arms above shoulder level, operate vehicle, squeeze, fine hand motion, bend, stoop, stand, walk, lift up to 55 pounds, use keyboard and mouse
• Occasionally: use portable ladder, work in confined spaces, and climb stairs

The wage range for Drill Locator

$24.00 - $30.00.
