Job summary

North Sky Communications, LLC is seeking a Bore Drill Locator II to support HDD locating operations. You will track, guide, and monitor drill head depth, pitch, and position to ensure precise bore paths and safe underground installs.

Role requires 1–2 years HDD locating experience, proficiency with Falcon/Subsite equipment, and a valid driver's license; expect overtime, travel, and on-call duties in all weather.

Qualifications

• 1–2 years HDD locating experience required.
• Proficiency with walk-over tracking electronics and receivers.
• Valid State driver's license with clean driving record.

Responsibilities

• Operate HDD locating and walk-over tracking equipment to guide the drill head along the bore path.
• Communicate real-time pitch, depth, and roll data to the drill operator for path corrections.
• Perform pre-bore utility line locating and site walkthroughs using data and maps.
• Document locate logs, bore paths, depth readings, and marks accurately.
• Troubleshoot locates and guide bores around utilities and tight tolerances.
• Possibly perform potholing/hand digging with light tools as needed.
• Respond to excavation notices and coordinate with crew, utility reps, and inspectors.
• Work overtime, travel, and be on-call/after-hours in all weather conditions.
• Other tasks as needed

At North Sky Communications, LLC, as a Bore Drill Locator II, you’ll help the horizontal directional drilling (HDD) locating operations by tracking, guiding, and monitoring the depth, pitch, and real-time position of the drill head to ensure precise bore paths and safe underground utility installations.

What You’ll Do

• Operate HDD locating and walk-over tracking equipment to guide the drill head along the designated bore path.
• Communicate real-time pitch, depth, and roll data directly to the drill operator to make path corrections and maintain safe clearances.
• Perform pre-bore utility line locating and site walkthroughs using electronic line detection equipment and utility maps to identify existing underground infrastructure.
• Document all locate logs, bore paths, depth readings, and visual marks accurately.
• Troubleshoot complex/difficult locates and assist in guiding bores around high-profile utilities and tight tolerances.
• Potentially perform potholing/hand digging with light hand tools as required to expose utility cross-overs safely.
• Respond promptly and courteously to excavation notices and maintain effective communication with crew members, utility representatives, and inspectors.
• Work overtime, travel, and perform on-call/afterhours responsibilities as needed in all weather conditions.
• Other tasks as needed

What You’ll Need

• To be 18 years of age or older.
• Authorization to work in the United States for this company.
• High School Diploma, GED equivalent, or relevant work experience.
• A minimum of 1–2 years of directional drill locating (HDD) experience.
• Proficiency with walk-over bore tracking electronics/receivers (e.g., Falcon, Subsite).
• Valid State driver's license (cannot be Provisional) with an acceptable driving record

Physical abilities & exposures

• Routinely: Work alone or with crews in remote locations with arms above shoulder level, operate vehicles, squeeze, perform fine hand motions, bend, stoop, stand, walk, lift up to 55 pounds, and use electronic handheld receivers.
• Occasionally: Use portable ladders, work in confined spaces, and climb stairs.

The wage range for Bore Drill Locator II is $21.00 - $28.00.
